The Big Fig was designed from the ground up for larger sleepers. It incorporates resilient foam, steel coils and a sturdy design to ensure you get maximum support and 20 years of use.
At the same time, the Big Fig is very comfortable with a soft/plush top that stays cool and feels surprisingly luxurious.
Big Fig is built extra-strong, too, which explains their market-beating 20-year warranty.
The only major downsides: Big Fig only comes in one comfort level (medium firm) – and it isn't a budget buy.

About Big Fig
Alison, the founder of Big Fig, had already been in the mattress industry for several years before coming up with the idea of a making a comfortable mattress for plus-sized sleepers.
She partnered with her further to turn this idea into reality.
Driven by the lack of plus-sized choices even among the newer online mattress brands, they created a mattress that guarantees comfort, support, and durability for heavier sleepers.
In addition to the Big Fig mattress, they also include an Amish-crafted foundation that’s sturdier than other types of organizations. Customers also have the option of buying a metal bed frame for added mattress support and longevity.
Just by thinking about the plus-sized part of society and making a product to help them sleep better, Big Fig has already made a huge social impact.
Big Fig mattress reviews are filled with customers saying how glad they were to finally find a mattress that allowed them to have a good night’s sleep, every night.
Big Fig prides themselves on manufacturing their products in the USA, providing hundreds of job opportunities.
Furthermore, they use products that are safe for their customers’ health as well as the environment.
All of their foams are CertiPUR-US certified, and they use natural fibers instead of hazardous chemicals as a fire barrier.
The Big Fig mattress is available only on their official website.
There you’ll find all the details about why the mattress is different and how they made it.

Unlike most online mattresses, the Big Fig is not delivered compressed into a box. It will come in its full size. Because the mattress consists of high-density foam and springs, it’s quite heavy.
The smallest size weighs 80 lbs. The King and Cal King each weigh 140 lbs.
You have two options to set this beast up in your home: either have an extra pair of hands or two around on delivery day or pay extra for Big Fig’s white glove delivery & setup service, which costs $99.
Aesthetics and Styling
The Big Fig mattress comes in a simple design with a patterned white top and blue sides.
A border is sewn around the edge of the mattress, and a Big Fig tag completes the minimalist look.
Larger folks want a durable mattress with lots of support and a mattress that sleeps cool.
One of the technologies Big Fig incorporates is an extra-thick comfort layer made from high-density poly foam which keeps the mattress from sagging and provides even support.
Below the comfort layer, Big Fig adds individually wrapped coils that provide stronger support for body weight. The Big Fig mattress uses more springs than most premium innerspring mattresses – the Queen has 1,200 of them while the King and Cal King have 1,600 each.
For cooling, the mattress uses two technologies. The first is the ThermoGel fabric cover. This treated fabric stays cool throughout.
The second is a gel-infused latex foam used just below the cover. It helps dissipate heat away from the mattress.
One other interesting part of the designed is the tufting that runs through the mattress. This is a tough string that has been woven through all the layers of the mattress to keep the material from shifting over time. Tufting is the strongest way to bind a mattress to retain its shape and support for years. The Queen size is tufted in 16 places.
The Big Fig mattress is a hybrid mattress composed of 4 layers of foam on top of a durable wrapped coil layer – plus an edge support system.
This heavy-duty construction ensures that it can support a lot of weight without sagging.
Big Fig tested their mattress using a simulation of a 350 lb person over 20 years. The mattress easily stood up to the tests.
Here's a quick video of the test in action:
You can read the original lab report on their website.
These are the layers of the Big Fig mattress. Altogether, the mattress is 13 inches thick.
- Quilted cover treated with Thermogel
- Gel-infused perforated latex foam layer – This is a thin layer just below the cover. The latex foam gives the mattress a nice bounce and helps with contouring. It is infused with gel, which helps keep the mattress cool by quickly dissipating heat away from the mattress.
- Three layers of high-density poly foam – these three layers prevent the mattress from sagging no matter your weight. The foam is extra high-density to withstand more pressure without sinking in or sagging.
- Pocketed coils layer – a layer of steel coils serves as the base of the mattress. The pocketed coils provide further anti-sag support that is helpful for heavier individuals and couples. Because each coil is individually wrapped, they move as your body’s shifts and contour to your joints and curves. They also boost airflow.
- Twin – 670 pocketed coils
- Twin XL – 710 pocketed coils
- Full – 1000 pocketed coils
- Queen – 1200 pocketed coils
- King and California King – 1,600 pocketed coils
- Edge support foam – this foam adds a high-density foam around the sides of the mattress. This not only makes the mattress last longer, but it also extends the usable area on the mattress, ensuring couples can sleep comfortably.
- Extra-durable tufting – holds the mattress together and maintains shape, over time.
- Big Fig Foundation (included) — Every mattress comes with a Big Fig foundation that is designed to be extra sturdy and supportive. According to the company, it will support up to five times the weight of a normal mattress foundation.
At checkout, you can also add a metal frame to your order. The frame is made from recycled railroad steel and can support the weight of up to 2,000 lbs.
The quilted cover on top is treated with ThermoGel cooling that keeps the mattress comfortably cool at all times.
The cover is not removable so it cannot be washed.
Big Fig strongly recommends using a mattress protector to keep the cover and mattress clean and fresh. If the cover stains, use a soft cloth and mild detergent to spot clean it.
The Big Fig mattress uses CertiPUR-US certified foams that have been tested for PBDEs, ozone depleters, VOC emissions and other harmful components.
So the mattress does not have any dangerous off-gassing.
If you detect a smell, it should dissipate within a few nights. If you don’t like it, leave the mattress uncovered in a well-ventilated room for a few days until the smell goes away.
Most Big Fig customer reviews claim the sleeping experience is good to excellent.
The mattress provides a high level of support and does not sag at all.
Many customers claim their nights are the most comfortable they have ever been. They can sleep soundly without feeling like they are in a swamp. The edge support also boosts comfort and support, especially for couples.
The mattress’ cooling ability is another highly rated feature. Most customers say the mattress stays cool through the night and doesn’t get stale from trapped heat and moisture.
The Big Fig is technically a medium-firm mattress. They only offer one comfort level at this time.
It feels soft on top yet is still firm enough to be supportive.
Sinkage and Motion Transfer
The Big Fig mattress has minimal sinkage thanks to the high-density support foam and pocketed coil layers. It sinks in just deep enough to create a soft pressure-relieving hug around the body but not too deep that it says.
At the edges where most mattresses tend to collapse, the Big Fig holds up well. This is because of the reinforced edge support system.
Motion transfer is minimal likely due to the layer of pocketed coils. Since they are individually wrapped, they do not transfer disturbance from one side of the mattress to the other. This is a big plus for couples.
There are three ways the Big Fig mattress tackles heating.
First, there is the ThermoGel cover which feels cool to the touch.
Below the cover, there is a layer of gel-infused foam that further helps dissipate heat away from the mattress
Finally, there is the layer of pocketed coils that allows free airflow, thus ensuring there is no trapped heat or moisture in the mattress.
Big Fig provides a 20-year warranty covering material and manufacturing defects such as broken coils, a bent foundation and body impressions deeper than 1 inch. Big Fig will replace or repair the mattress at no cost to you.
Big Fig offers a generous 120 nights to test the mattress.
If you don’t like it (after at least two weeks), call them, and they will pick it up for free and give you a full refund.
Shipping takes 7 to 14 days. It takes this long because each mattress is made to order.
There are three shipping options.
- The mattress can be shipped free to your door but without any setup assistance.
- a white glove delivery option where for $99, the mattress is delivered and setup in your bedroom.
- a white glove plus mattress removal option. Big Fig will deliver the mattress, set it up for you and take away your old mattress.
Big Fig only ships to the US. No international deliveries are made at this time.
