Brooklyn Bedding just made its Signature mattress even better.

The Brooklyn Signature mattress is known as #bestmattressever (BME). The original marketing campaign worked well to make it this one of the most popular and affordable latex mattresses sold online.

Now, Brooklyn Bedding has updated the BME in a major way.

First off, it is no longer an all-foam latex mattress. They swapped their foam foundation with a layer of support springs, which makes the Signature now technically a hybrid mattress.

So: is the #bestmattressever still as supportive and comfortable as before? and how does it compare to other hybrid mattresses?

About Brooklyn Bedding

Brooklyn Bedding Mattress Review

Brooklyn Bedding started in 2008, making it one of the first bed-in-a-box companies to test the waters with their bold new idea. It was an immediate hit, and the company has enjoyed stellar growth since.

In addition to their BME (Brooklyn Signature) mattress, they have also launched the cheaper Brooklyn Bowery and the premium Brooklyn Aurora.

The company is well known for their quality mattresses that feel incredibly comfortable and supportive and last long. One reason for this is that they do all their manufacturing in the United States. So quality control is much easier.

They sell other sleep products as well including foundations, toppers, and pillows. They have showrooms in several cities in Arizona including Avondale, Phoenix, Tucson, and Scottsdale.

But you don’t need to go to one of their showrooms to test a mattress before buying. Shopping on their website takes less than five minutes. You’ll get plenty of time to test the mattress at home. If you don’t like it, they’ll take it back, no questions asked.

Social Impact

Brooklyn Bedding has worked with various charities over the years including the First Down Fund and Arizona's Children Association.

They take great care to protect the environment through their manufacturing process. All manufacturing is done locally where they can easily monitor the quality and safety of raw materials.

They also provide dozens of jobs, especially in Arizona, thanks to local sourcing and manufacturing.

Purchase Process

Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are available on Amazon and other retail stores. But I strongly recommend that you buy on the official website where you can enjoy their 120-day trial and other perks.

Before you pick your comfort level and size, go through the warranty and return policies. The return period is 120 days, and the warranty is ten years long and non-prorated.

If you are okay with the fine print, visit the product page for the Brooklyn Signature mattress.

Choose your mattress size and preferred comfort level (soft, medium and medium firm). There is a comforting guide on the page to help you choose the right one. But generally, the medium one is perfect for most people.

But if you sleep on your side or love sinking into your mattress, get the soft one. If on the other hand, you are a stomach sleeper, you love floating on your mattress, or you have a large body figure, the firm is better.

All comfort levels cost the same.

Checkout and complete payment with your credit card.If you prefer paying in installments, check whether you qualify for financing. Brooklyn Bedding works with Affirm to provide low-cost financing with easy monthly installments. The qualification check is instant.

FedEx shipping is available for those in the US and Canada, but it’s only free for customers in the contiguous US.

120-Night Trial

Best Latex Mattress

Brooklyn Bedding’s trial goes beyond the standard 100 nights. They give you 120 nights to test the mattress and decide if you want to keep it.

Because it takes time to get used to a new mattress, they require you sleep on it for at least 30 days before initiating a return.

Returns are free, and you’ll get a full refund minus any shipping or handling fees you had paid.

10-Year Warranty

The Brooklyn Signature comes with a 10-year full warranty. It covers manufacture and workmanship defects. But you must use the mattress on the right foundation to avoid voiding the warranty.

In case of a claim, it’s up to Brooklyn Bedding to decide if they’ll repair or replace the mattress.

Read the full warranty on their official website.

Shipping

 Bedding Mattress Review

Brooklyn Bedding ships mattresses free of charge via FedEx Ground to all 48 states in the continental US. If you are in Alaska, Hawaii or Canada, there is a shipping charge. It starts at $250 for Alaska and Hawaii and $270 for Canada.

This is quite pricey. Unless you want this mattress, there are other quality mattresses such as Leesa that ship free to all of US and Canada.

Shipping takes 5-8 days on average depending on your location. Use the provided tracking number to track your order.

You can order expedited shipping but expect to pay more.

Delivery and Setup

Bedding Mattress Review

Brooklyn Bedding does not offer White Glove delivery so get ready to do everything yourself. But it should take just a few minutes to carry it inside (you might need an extra pair of hands) and set it up.

Never leave the mattress in the box for more than three weeks as it could fail to decompress fully. If you are traveling and won’t be around to set up the mattress, ask Brooklyn Bedding to delay shipping.

Once you roll it onto the foundation, it takes 3-5 minutes to expand. It will continue to expand over the next 24 hours.

Foundation & Frame

Brooklyn Bedding Mattress Review

What type of bed frame/support does Brooklyn Signature require?

The Brooklyn Signature mattress works with any non-flexing support. This includes no-flex box spring (get a new one if yours bends when you sit or stand on it), slatted foundations (slats should be maximum 4” apart) and metal foundations.

Does Brooklyn Signature work on an adjustable bed?

Yes, it does.

Care & Cleaning

Is a mattress protector needed for Brooklyn Signature?

No, but it is highly recommended to protect against fluid, spills, and stains. The cover is non-removable, so it’s harder to clean away stains.

Do you need to rotate the Brooklyn Signature mattress?

Brooklyn Bedding recommends rotating it every 6-8 months. But you cannot flip it because the comfort layers are at the top while the firmer support layers are at the bottom.

Aesthetics & Styling

The design is a simple two-tone style with white at the top and blue on the sides. A stitched Brooklyn Bedding logo adorns one of the shorter sides of the mattress.

Construction

Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress review - construction

Here is the updated hybrid structure of the Brooklyn Signature mattress.

2” TitanFlex™ comfort foam

TitanFlex is a type of foam with latex-like properties. It feels bouncy, provides good support and stays cool.

This particular layer uses hyper-elastic TitanFlexfoam to provide instant contouring and pressure relief. Each time you shift when sleeping, the foam shifts with you. It feels like a soft hug that’s always cradling your joint and curves.

The foam is infused with cooling gel for heat dissipation.

2” Energex™ support foam

Higher density TitanFlex foam is used in this layer to provide lumbar and compression support. In other words, this layer makes sure your back is properly supported and prevents you from sinking too deep into the mattress.

6” encased coils

This layer of 952 coils provides a robust foundation for the mattress. It also boosts cooling by enhancing airflow and helps with contouring.

Mattress Cover

Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress review - closeup-top-view

The cover consists of a soft and breathable cotton polyester blend. A thin layer of foam is quilted under the cover to make it even softer and plusher.

Note: The cover is non-removable hence you cannot wash it. To clean, dab at the stain with water and mild detergent.

Smell/Off-Gassing

There will be a smell but only mild and harmless. It should dissipate in a couple of days. Leave it uncovered in the garage or bedroom to dissipate the smell quicker.

Sleeping Experience

Brooklyn Bedding Mattress Review

The Brooklyn Signature is an all-around great mattress.

Regarding support, the second dense foam layer keeps your back well aligned and prevents excess sinkage even for plus size sleepers. Even the soft comfort mattress still feels supportive enough.

When it comes to comfort, the plush cover and instant-response top layer do a great job of cuddling your body.

For side sleepers, pressure relief is excellent meaning you won’t feel any pressure points on your hips or shoulders. But make sure you choose the right comfort level (soft or medium firm).

We had chosen the earlier Brooklyn Signature design as the best latex mattress for side sleepers. Now it’s one of the best and most affordable hybrids mattresses for side sleepers and back/stomach/combination sleepers as well.

Firmness

Bedding Mattress Review

There are three firmness levels: soft, medium and firm. The medium is the most comfortable choice for most people. If you are not sure what comfort level to select, just go for medium. The firmness rating is 5.5-6.5 with ten being the firmest.

The soft mattress falls between 2.5 and 4.5 depending on your sleeping position and body weight. The firm one is between 7.5 and 8.5.

↑ Table of Contents

Sinkage

Sinkage will depend on which comfort level you choose, your body weight and sleeping position.

The soft comfort mattress has the greatest sinkage while the firm one has the least sinkage. The medium mattress is somewhere in between which is one of the reasons it’s the best choice for most people. It doesn’t feel too firm nor is it overly soft.

Regardless of which mattress you buy, you’ll notice more sinkage when you sleep on your side or if you have a larger body size.

Sinkage at the edges is greatly reduced thanks to the spring layer which provides good edge support.

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is essentially zero thanks to the latex-like qualities of TitanFlex foam and the spring layer. This is a big plus for couples and those who share their bed with large pets.

Hot/Cold Issues

I have not seen or heard any heating issues with this mattress. The gel-infused foam does a pretty good job of dissipating heat away from the mattress. The breathable cover and the pocketed coil foundation also help a great deal especially for those who live in hot and humid areas like Houston and Tampa.

If you want, you can use a heating or cooling pad. It won’t damage the mattress.
