The Casper Original Hybrid mattress combines body-conforming foam with supportive and contouring pocket coils for a comfortable sleeping experience.
Great choice for: Anyone looking for a pocket coil mattress that sleeps comfortably in all sleeping positions and has some bounce.
Avoid if: You prefer the feel of an all-foam mattress.
Price: $595 – $1,295
The new Casper Original Hybrid mattress combines pressure-relieving foams with coil springs to eliminate pressure points, align your spine and support your back and core.
Price-wise, the Casper Original Hybrid costs about the same as other great hybrid mattresses sold online. In the brand lineup, it is more expensive than the Essential and the original Casper but cheaper than the Casper Wave.
Overall, the Casper Original Hybrid mattress is a fine choice if you are looking for a premium quality but affordable pocket coil mattress.

Casper is one of the biggest and best known bed-in-a-box companies.
The company launched in 2014. Since then, they’ve expanded into several countries outside the US.
They’ve also expanded their catalog, adding other bedding products including pillows, bed frames, and bed sheets.
Currently, Casper sells three mattress models – and all can be upgraded with the Hybrid option:
- The Casper Original foam mattress
- The budget Casper Element
- The luxury Casper Wave
Casper goes to great lengths to make high quality, eco-friendly products.
All their mattresses use CertiPUR-US certified foams, guaranteeing they lack ozone-depleting chemicals and harmful VOC emissions.
As a certified B-Corp, Casper is committed to achieving high standards in environmental and social performance.
While they currently don’t have any formal charity programs, they try their best to donate returned mattresses to charity organizations.
The best place to order the Casper Original Hybrid mattress is on the official Casper website. There, you’ll be assured the best deal and quick customer service.

Delivery and Setup
If you’d paid for white glove delivery, the mattress would be set up wherever you want.
But you can easily set up the mattress yourself though you need an extra pair of hands to carry it inside and lay it out on the bed.
Foundation & Frame
What type of bed frame/support does Casper Original Hybrid require?
The Casper Original Hybrid mattress is designed to work with most types of bed frames and bases, including a foundation, platform bed, or even an adjustable bed frame.
If you are using a slatted foundation, make sure the slats are at least 1.5” thick and no more than 4” apart.
Do not use a box spring.
Does Casper Original Hybrid work on an adjustable bed?
Yes, it does.
Care and Cleaning
Is a mattress protector needed for Casper Original Hybrid?
While the Casper Original Hybrid cover is removable, Casper does not recommend machine-washing it as it may shrink.
To keep it clean and stain-free, they highly recommend a waterproof and breathable mattress protector.
If you have to clean the cover, spot clean it using cold water and mild detergent.
Do you need to rotate the Casper Original Hybrid mattress?
In most cases, you don’t need to rotate the mattress.
But if you sleep alone on one side of the bed or have a significant weight difference with your partner, it’s a good idea to rotate the mattress every 3-6 months to even out the wearing.
Aesthetics and Styling
The Casper mattress has a simple two-tone styling. The cover is white on top and grey on the sides.
With a thickness of 12”, it has that upscale look of 5-star hotel mattresses.
The construction and design of the Casper Original Hybrid mattress bring together the best of foam and springs.
The foam conforms to your body to relieve pressure while the springs provide responsive support and deep body contouring.
The mattress has four layers. Here they are in order.
Open-cell comfort foam: This foam has a latex feel to it. It’s bouncy yet plush. It quickly hugs your shoulders and hips, providing instant comfort relief when you lie on the mattress. The open cell design increases airflow, ensuring you sleep cool and sweat-free.
Memory foam: As you settle into the mattress, the memory foam layer underneath envelops your body in a deep soft hug. Regardless of your sleeping position, you won’t experience any uncomfortable pressure points. Memory foam tends to overheat, but it’s not a big problem in the Casper Original Hybrid since it’s hidden away in the second layer.
Zoned poly foam: This transition layer provides support and distributes your weight evenly over the mattress. It is designed with zones of variable firmness: softer form under the shoulders to relieve pressure and firmer foam under the hips to provide core support. This ensures your body maintains healthy spinal alignment, which prevents back pain.
Pocket coils: Individually wrapped coils provide compression support and keep the mattress from sagging. They also contour the mattress to your body and sleeping position, moving with you as change positions. Spaces between coils allow increased ventilation to keep the mattress cool.
The pocket coil layer has an edge-to-edge design, meaning the springs extend to the edge of the mattress.
This prevents the edges from collapsing when you sit or sleep at the edge.
The Casper Original Hybrid Mattress is wrapped in a soft and stretchy polyester blend cover.
It’s highly breathable, which helps keep you cool at night.
The cover is removable, but you shouldn’t wash it. To remove stains, spot clean with cold water and mild detergent.
Because of the way the mattress is packed compressed into a box, it has a mild smell when you open it.
The smell will go away in a couple of days. To clear it faster, leave the mattress uncovered in a well-ventilated room for a full day.
Note that the smell is not harmless. The foams used in the Casper Original Hybrid mattress have very low levels of VOCs and are free of harmful ozone-destroying chemicals.
While the Casper Original Hybrid lacks the luxurious feel of the pricier Casper Wave mattress, it certainly sleeps more comfortably than a typical all-foam mattress.
The combination of foam and springs provides an all-around sleeping experience that hits all the sweet spots.
The comfort foam has a soft pressure-relieving hug while the transition foam aligns your body just the right way. The springs hold you up and add a pleasant bounce to the mattress.
The bounciness of the coils makes it easy to move around on the mattress, despite its plush feel. You won’t have trouble standing up from the bed or turning at night.
Edge support is really good thanks to the edge-to-edge pocket coil design. This is a big deal for couples since they tend to sleep closer to the edge.
The Casper Original Hybrid mattress has a medium feel, around 5-6 out of 10 on a scale of increasing firmness.
This is a tad softer than the usual medium-firm feel we are used to in most mattresses.
But don’t worry; the Casper Original Hybrid mattress doesn’t feel swampy at all. The springs do a great job holding you up, even if you have a bigger body.
The medium firmness makes the Casper Original Hybrid a great choice for back, side, and combo sleepers. Some stomach sleepers might find it a bit too soft for their comfort.
The Casper Original Hybrid has a deeper sinkage than most hybrid mattresses. That’s because of the comfort foam and memory foam layers on top.
Most people will experience an ‘in the mattress’ feel.
If you prefer to float on a mattress, the Casper Original Hybrid may not be the best choice for you.
Despite the generous sinkage, the mattress still provides great support thanks to the zoned transition foam and the edge-to-edge pocketed springs.
You won’t bottom out.
While the coils to generate a bit of bounce when you turn or move, the foam layers on top do a good job absorbing the disturbance so that you won’t wake your partner up.
If you or your partner tends to be particularly fidgety at night, the Casper Original Hybrid mattress is a great choice.
Hybrid mattresses generally sleep cool thanks to the increased ventilation within the pocket coil layer. The Casper Original Hybrid is no different.
The open-cell foam on top and the breathable cover also help keep temperatures down, especially on warm summer nights.
