Do you drink in the bedroom or share a glass with someone else who drinks there?
You're at the right place.
What's In This Guide?
This article covers the most common challenges people experience when they drink in bed and suggests the best products to help them overcome these issues.
We've also got some useful advice for dealing with these issues.
Common Issues That Come With Drinking In Bed
Here are some common issues that people who drink alcohol in their bedroom often experience. These may also affect you if your partner drinks alcohol in your bedroom.
Scroll down to see a list of top-rated products we recommend for each problem.
Spills On Bed Or Other Surfaces
There's no way to be completely sure that you won't spill something on the bed or floor, so just be prepared for anything.
Bedspilling is particularly bad because you could damage your mattress and cause stains on your bedding.
To avoid a big messy situation, put your drink on bed trays like our top choice, the Pipishell bamboo bedtrays. You can also put a bed cup holder inside your pillowcase.
Just to be sure, buy a mattress protector or a waterproof bed cover. We really enjoy using the PlushDeluxe bamboo mattress protector, and we think the Ameritex waterproof bed covers are pretty cool too.
For floor spillage, keep a wet/dry vacuum handy. Cleaning away the mess is much easier than mopping it up. We recommend the Tineco iFloor 3 cordless wet/dry vacuum for its ease of use and versatility.
Drinks Becoming Warm
If you often drink cold beverages like beer, wine, or soda in bed, you will have a challenge keeping them cold.
Instead of going into the kitchen whenever you want a cold beverage, why not keep them cold in your bedroom?
You could use a cool box, but it's probably not something you'd want to keep in your room. It's big, boxy, and kind of ugly.
We recommend using a drink cooler for the best cooling solution. It's like a mini refrigerator for drinks. We found the best one for the nightstand is the Antarctic Star 1,600 cu. ft. beverage refrigerator.
If you're mainly into drinking wines, then a modern ice bucket like the HUSKI Wines Chiller is perfect for you. We really enjoy using the Vacu Vin Rapid Cooler.
Major Kitchen Trips For Coffee
If you enjoy drinking your morning cup of tea in bed, getting up every time you want some is annoying. You can take the whole bottle of wine to bed, but it'll be cold soon.
The best solution is for you to have a coffeemaker by your bedside. We selected the Ninja CP307 as the best choice for our needs because of its versatility. You can use it for making different types of hot and cold beverages.
Instead, buy a thermal carafe that holds coffee hot for up to twelve hours. We found the Cresimo 68oz thermal coffee carafe to be the best for our needs.
Lack of A Space To Put Drinks
Putting your drink down on the floor is not a good idea because of the aforementioned issues of spilling and keeping it in your hands. Also, you don't want to hold it when it gets cold or hot.
It may work, but it's not convenient to reach for your drink whenever you want one.
We've found two solutions that help. One is a bamboo bed tray like the Pipishell Bamboo Bedtrays. They're our favorites.
The second solution is an inflatable pillow like the Cup Cozy.
Difficulties Getting Ice
If you're drinking lots of iced drinks, having to go back to the kitchen every time you want another one is annoying. However, if you don't keep any cold drinks at room temp, they won't last long.
Luckily, these compact refrigerators have become so small that they fit into your room and are easily accessible when you need them.
We recommend the NewAir Countertop Ice Maker Machine because it has the best features for most people.
Empty Bottles/Cans Making A Mess
Empty bottles and cans can accumulate quickly in the bedroom. You may suddenly have a mess at your side and even under the beds.
It's not just messy; cans and bottles on the ground can also attract ants and other critters because they're left behind by the last drops of liquid inside them.
For cans, we suggest keeping a small container near your bed. We like an iTouchless 2.5-gallon sensor trash can.
It's compact and doesn't require you to get up from your desk to open the lid. You just wave your hand over the lid and it opens.
For beer bottles, we recommend a bottle caddy like this BARGIFTS 6-bottle caddy. You can then take them out of the bedroom when the caddy fills up.
Discomfort When Reclining/Sitting Up In Bed
Sleeping in an upright position can be uncomfortable. It's not good for your back and can cause pain and ache in your lower back, shoulder, and neck.
Instead of lying directly on the bed or placing your regular pillows behind you, we suggest using a backrest cushion.
For most people who sleep, we suggest the Husband Pillow XL.
Best Solutions For Drinking In Bed
Waterproof Mattress Protector and Bed Cover
Spills on your mattress aren't just messy; they can cause mold and attract insects like cockroaches and termites.
They can also leave behind stubborn stains. Mattresses may be covered by warranties or return policies if they're stained.
You should at least have a mattress protector. It's easy to clean the bedding, but cleaning a stained mattress is difficult. We recommend our top mattress protector for its premium quality and softness.
To keep your bedding clean, buy a waterproof sheet protector. It'll keep any stains away from the bedding and mattress. We really like the Ameritex waterproof bed cover.
Wet Dry Vacuum Cleaner
If you're having trouble cleaning up a liquid spill on your kitchen countertop, use a wet dry vacuum instead of paper towels or a moped.
It's so much quicker and easier to clean using a steam cleaner than by hand. You can even clean up around the house using a steam cleaner.
We really enjoy using our Tineco iFLOW3 corded wet dry vacuum for cleaning up messes on hard floors.
Beverage Coolers & Chillers
There are lots of ways to keep drinks cold. Here are some of the best ones for storing them in your bedroom.
- Beer sleeves –These are our current favorites for insulated cans and bottles. They're customizable so you get exactly what you want.
- Wine chillers –A good way to keep a single glass of red or white chilled without using ice cubes is by using a small refrigerator called a “wine cooler.” We really enjoy using Vintner's Rapid Ice Cooler because it cools drinks and keeps them cold.
- Beer chiller/cooler – A beer chiller works by enveloping an alreadY cold bottle or can within a vacuum flace so that it insulates it from heat. One of the best beer chillers is the Asobu Frosty Beer can and bottle cooler.
- Beverage refrigerator –If you want to store multiple beverages at once, then a beverage fridge is the best option. We recommend the Antarctic star 1.6 cu ft Beverage Refrigerators. You could also use a mini fridge such as this cuteGalanz Retro Compact Refrigerator.
There are several other options we've not mentioned, like cooler boxes (though I'm not so sure about having a cooler in the bedroom) and insulated beer and wine totes.
Coffee Maker or Thermal Carafe
To enjoy hot drinks, the best thing to do is always have a freshly brewed cup ready when needed. You can achieve this by keeping a coffeemaker close to you at night.
We chose the Ninja CP307 because we wanted an appliance that could make various drinks, from hot cups of espresso to iced teas. It was also easy to use, so we didn't need to be there whenever someone needed a drink.
If you want something smaller, the Wirsh single-serve coffee maker is also programmable.
Not a big fan of a coffee maker in the bedroom? Get a thermal carafe instead. Our top pick was the Cresimo 68oz thermal coffee carafes. It's a vacuum flask that keeps coffee hot for hrs.
Using a thermal carafe is better for keeping your coffee taste good and fresh than using a microwave, heating pad, or leaving it in an insulating French-pressed mug.
Microwave ovens cause uneven heating and can sometimes even cause burns. Overcooking coffee may cause it to taste burnt. If you leave the coffee in an insulated cup for too long, it will become overly extracted and may taste bitter.
Bedside Ice Maker
Don't bother with your freezer's icemaker. It's not fast enough, and it's too close anyway.
Today, you can easily get an attractive small ice maker perfect for your bedroom. We like the NewAir Countertop Ice Maker Machine.
Portable icemakers make quick, easy-to-use, and quiet ices. They're usually quite efficient at making them too.
Bed Tray Table
A bedside table is normally used for eating in bed, however, it's also ideal for putting a drink on. It provides a handy spot for storing drinks and reduces the risk of spills on your bed.
Look for a tray like our top pick, Pipishell Bamboo Trays, which has a lip all around to prevent drinks from slipping off.
Instead, use a bed pillow cover like the Cup Cozy pillow.
Trash Can or Bottle Holder To Put Empty Cans & Bottles
A small trash bin near the bedside is perfect for disposing of drink cans. It helps keep your room clean and free from pests.
We know getting up to push a button is painful, so we recommend a bin like the iTouchLess 2.5 gallon Sensors trash can.
Empty beverage bottles take up space in your recycling bin, so if you don't want them there, put them in another container.
Instead, we suggest using a bottle carrier or caddie. Put it on the ground or on top of the dresser and organize the empty bottles until they're full. You can then take them out and throw them away with other recyclable items.
We love the rusticity of the BAGGIFT 6-bottle caddy and the fact you can reuse it for years, unlike cheap plastic ones.
By the way, you should also think about where to put empty bottles once you're done drinking them. They can also be an eyesore. If you don't have one, that's fine too. Instead, buy this Veteran Crafted bottle opener with a cap catcher.
Backrest Pillow
You should get a backrest pillow suitable for different bed activity types like reading, watching TV etc.
The best one for all of this is the Husband Pillow XXL Large. It's big and soft and has head support and arm rests.

These Ameritex waterproof beds are usually intended for pet owners who want their beds to be water resistant. A waterproof bed protector will keep your bedding clean if your pet sleeps on your bed.

Spills on the sides of the bed will go through the mattress cover.
3. Tineco iFLOOR3 Cordless Wet Dry Vacuum Cleaner
The Tineco iFLOOR3 helps you easily clean up spills on the ground. It’s cordless so it’s super easy to move around.
PROS
- Mop and vacuum at the same times
- Powerful suction
- Long battery life
- Self-cleaning function
CONS
- Not for use on rugs and carpets
Our Review
Instead of using a paper towel or a mop, use the Tineco iFloor 3 cordless dry wet vacuums for cleaning up liquid messes on floors.
It combines a roller brush and powerful suction to clean the floor at once, leaving behind a dry floor.
The Tineco iFLOOR3 has two tanks where you add fresh tap and sinker and a third one where the cleaner suctions up dirt.
A simple-to-read display shows you when the dirty tank is full and when the clean tank is empty. It also has an indicator for ‘full clean tank'
It also tells you how long the battery lasts when fully charged. With a full charge, the Tineco iFloor 3 can be used for up to 25 minutes at one time.
It's enough time to clean up a small mess and even vacuum an entire floor. After you're finished, put it back into its charger, so it's ready for another small mess.
The Tineco iFLOOR3 has a built-in self-clean feature, making cleaning easier.
Issues & Limitations
Unfortunately, you can't install the Tineco iFloor 3 on carpet or rug floors. You can only install it on a hard flooring like tiles, wood, laminate, and linoleum.
If you have a wood floor or a rug, try the Bissel Crosswave Pet Pro; it works fine on both types of surfaces.
4. Antarctic Star 1.6cu.ft Beverage Refrigerator
The Antarctic Star 1.6 cu. Ft. beverage coolers are perfect for bedrooms. You can put any beverage inside, including alcohol, coffee, tea, and juice boxes.
PROS
- Space-saving and compact
- Soft interior lighting through glass doors
- Comes with racks for quick storage
- Powerful compressor cooling
CONS
- Analog temperature control dial
Our Review
It's small enough to fit into any space, but large enough to hold up to two drinks at once.
The 1.6 cubic feet capacity is enough to hold a decent number of beverages like wine bottles, water bottles, and beverage cans.
Users could store up to ten wine bottles at once. If they're not too tall, you can fit dozens of cans on shelves.
The Antarctic Star cooler has a temperature control dial at its top that allows you to adjust the desired temperature.
The glass doors provide a nice view of the beverages inside, especially when lit by the soft blue interior LED lights. It's not too bright for most people to see during the day, but you can turn it down if you don't like it.
It's not too loud, so it's perfect to use in the bedroom.
Issues & Limitations
One of the biggest limitations of the Antarctic Star 1.6 cu. ft. wine cooler is its temperature control. It's hard to set a precise temperature because it's an analogue dial, not a digital one.
To keep your wine or beer at the correct temperatures, you'll need to buy a refrigerator thermometers and use them to adjust the settings.
5. Vacu Vin Rapid Ice Elegant Wine Cooler
If you don't need the space for a wine fridge in your bedroom or don’t feel like having one, a wine chiller is a good option.
It keeps one bottle of red or white at the right temperature. We highly suggest the Vacu Vin Rapid. It doesn't just cool down bottles of red or white, it can also cool down room temperature wines.
PROS
- Chills wine
- Keeps wine cold for hours
- Perfect for use at home and away
- Fits most wine bottles
CONS
- Takes longer than advertised to chill wine
Our Review
To cool down your red wines quickly, use the Vacu Vin Rapid Cooling System. It's quicker than putting the wine in a refrigerator or an iced bucket.
It uses a coolant sleeve that wraps around the wine bottle. It has a sleek plastic case which gives it an elegant appearance.
You place the cooling element/sleeves in the freezer for at least six hours. After that, just put the sleeves into the plastic casings and place the bottles inside the sleeves.
The sleeve keeps room temperature wine cold for up to 20 minutes. Once it's chilled, it will stay warm for up to 3 hrs, but if it was warmer than room temperature when you put it in, it might take longer.
The Vacu Vin rapid cooler keeps cold wines colder than any other device we've tried. It'll keep the beer cold for hours, allowing you to drink a few beers without worrying about them warming.
Put the ice pack back into the freezer after you've finished using it so it'll be ready to go again with the next bottle.
Issues & Limitations
The vendor claims the Vacu Vin Rapid cools down wines in five minutes. Unless your wines are already quite chilled, that's a big claim.
Most users found it took 10-20 minutes to cool down their leftover red wines after sitting out at room temperature for an hour or so.
When chilling room temperature wines, don't expect them to remain cold for an hour or so. To keep them cold for longer, put already-chilled bottles into the freezer.
6. Pipishell Bamboo Bed Tray Table
Having a bedside table is essential if you drink or snack in bed often. It's handy and helps prevent spills from happening.
The Pipishell Bamboo Bed Tray has foldable legs, handle, and a lip to prevent spills from slipping off.
PROS
- Eco-friendly bamboo construction
- Easy to use side handles
- Foldable legs
- Protective lip all round
- Includes a media slot for your phone or tablet
CONS
- Legs are not height adjustable
Our Review
The Pipishell Bamboo Trays are available in medium and large size options.
Get a large size. It comes in at 21.7 by 14 inches, giving you plenty of room for your drinks and even a plate of snacks.
You can put your drinks on one tray if you're drinking with your significant other.
It measures 15.8 by 11.5 cm (6.3 x 4.4 in). Some users say it's too narrow to fit across their laps.
The PipiShell tray has extendable feet that spread outwards so that it stays stable on the mattress. If you don't need them, you can fold them back so that the tray sits flat on the mattress.
To ensure that nothing falls out of the dishwasher, place a tall lip around the dishwasher's rim. Place handles on both sides of the dishwasher for ease of carrying.
The Pipishell Tray includes a hole along one side where you can place your smartphone or tablet so you can watch as you drink.
Issues & Limitations
The legs on the PIPISHELL BAMBOo BED TRAY are not height adjustable. You cannot change the height of the trays. You can only open and fold the legs.
7. Newair CounterTop Ice Maker Machine
The Newair countertop ice maker makes a batch of ice cubes in less than 10 minutes and can make 28lbs of ice in 24 hours.
PROS
- Makes ice quickly
- Three ice cube sizes
- Quiet
- Recycling function
- No installation necessary
CONS
- Not much difference in ice sizes
- Ice melts quickly if you don't take it out
Our Review
A big advantage of having a portable ice machine is that you don't have to install it. It doesn't require a water pipe or a drain pipe.
You can set it up anywhere, even in your room, if there's an electrical socket.
To start using the NewAir ice makers, just put some water into them. Before using it for the first time, remember to clean it thoroughly with a vinegar solution. Don't waste those first two ice batches.
The new air has the first batch of iced ready in about 10 minutes. The bullets are not cubes; they're shaped differently than cubes.
You can either put the ice directly into the refrigerator or transfer it to the fridge. You can also put it in the freezer. The ice will melt into liquid, and then the liquid will be reused to make more ice.
The Newair ice maker works quietly. You won't be able to tell if there's any noise because the fan runs quietly.
You can turn off the ice machine when you go to bed so it won't keep waking you up.
Issues & Limitations
Despite the manufacturer saying the ice bin is insulated from the outside, the ice inside still melted pretty quickly. Use it right away or freeze it for later.
But it's no big deal if you leave it in the ice maker. It'll melt and then the refrigerator will use it to make even more ice. There's no waste (well, just a bit of power wastage).
8. Ninja CP307 Hot and Cold Brewed System
The Ninja CP307 makes various types of tea and coffees, including hot and cold brews, and you can drink them either hot or iced.
PROS
- Six brew sizes
- Easy to use control panel
- Includes a frother
- Comes with a thermal carafe
- Programmable timer
CONS
- No hot plate to keep coffee hot
Our Review
The Ninja CP307 hot and cold brewed system is a versatile coffeemaker with lots of features.
It has lots of features but is easy to learn.
The controls are laid out intuitively with an LCD screen, making it easy to choose between different sizes and types of coffee.
You can brew five different kinds of coffee and tea. There are separate filters for loose-leaf tea and bagged tea. There's also a milk frother for creating milky drinks.
There are six different sizes available, ranging from one to four cups. You can make just enough for yourself or everyone else in the house.
You can use a delayed timer to set the coffeemaker to brew at a certain time.
The Ninja CP307 has 50-oz thermal carafes that keep drinks warm for up to 2 hours.
Issues & Limitations
The Ninja CP307 isn't equipped with a hot water tank, so brewed tea in the kettle doesn't stay warm for long.
Fortunately, you have the thermal coffee maker. You can keep your hot beverages warm for up to two hour by putting them in the carafes.
9. Cresimo 68 Oz Stainless Steel Thermal Coffee Carafe
Most coffeemakers keep their cups warm for only a short period of times. To keep coffee or any other beverages hot for longer, use the Cresimo 68 ounce stainless steel carafe.
It keeps drinks warm or cool for up to 12 hrs.
PROS
- Long heat retention
- Also great for keeping cold drinks cold
- Large capacity
- Durable steel construction
CONS
- Beverages are hottest over 4-6 hours
- The lid drips coffee
Our Review
If you don't want to take out your coffee maker into your bedroom, then a thermal carafé is the next best option.
The Cresimo Carafes hold up to 68 ounces of beverages, including coffee, tea, water or anything else. That's enough for at least three cups of coffee.
Put hot water into it and then put the lid on. It'll keep piping hot for up to 6 hours and cool down afterward. Most people find their coffee too warm after eight to twelve hours.
The Cresimo coffee maker has double walls for maximum heating retention. It has a stainless steel exterior, so you know it'll last for years without rusting or damaging.
It’s easy to use, whether or not you’re carrying the carafes around with you or pouring them out.
You don't need to remove the cap to pour coffee from the pot. Simply press a tab.
Issues & Limitations
One of the most common issues with the Cresimo coffee maker is that coffee somehow gets inside the lid when pouring it out. If you put the carafe down again, some coffee may drip from the lid and could stain your linens or bedding.
One problem is that the Cresmo carafe doesn't keep drinks piping hot for the entire twelve-hour retention period.
If you like your hot water extra-hot, the kettle will heat it up for about 4-6 hrs.
10. Cup Cozy Pillow
Not a big lover of bed trays? Try the Cup Cozy pillow. It’s one of the best cup holders for your bed or couch and can fit three drinks simultaneously.
PROS
- Great for use in any situation where you want to relax.
- Foams insulate drinks
- Stretchable holes can be used for any type of drink
- A special drink holder for beverages with a handle.
- Washable and removable cover
CONS
- It can tip over if you (or your kid or pet) flops on the bed
Our Review
The Cup Cozy is a thick, boxy pillow that holds cups and bottles. It features three cup holders set on its top.
You can put bottles or cans in either side holders. However, if you want to use a mug with a hand-hold, you must place it in the middle.
The holes are shaped to tightly hold whatever you place inside them, keeping liquids from spilling out. The outside material is also grippy so it won't slide easily on the couch or bed.
It also adds an extra layer of comfort by providing some insulating properties.
Don't worry if you spill something on the outside of the cup cozy pillow; just unzip it and toss it into the washing machine.
Issues & Limitations
The wide bottom of the cup cozy pillow makes it easy for you to roll onto your side without tipping over.
But if there's a strong enough force, it could cause the bottle to fall off the table and spill its contents onto the floor. Be careful!
