Blello is one of the newest kids on the block, joining well-known brands like Casper in selling affordable foam mattresses to the public directly from their website.

This is a traditional 3-layer foam mattress that provides good back support, minimal body contouring and some cooling. The sleep trial period and warranty are standard for the industry.

One of Bello's advantages, however, is its price: this is a great alternative if you are looking for a slightly less expensive alternative to Leesa, Tuft and Needle, Saatva or Casper – all sizes cost less than $1,000.

About Blello

Blello Mattress Review

Blello launched in 2017 with the aim of getting rid of all the traditional markups that make mattresses expensive. They wanted to be more honest than even other online mattress companies.

For instance, they offer a quiz on their site that you can take before you buy their mattress. If the mattress is not right for you, they will tell you.

That kind of openness is not common in the mattress business, let me tell you.

Social Impact

Blello is made in the US. Everything from sourcing raw materials to manufacturing happens locally. This provides quality local jobs and ensures the safest and highest quality products.

Beyond their factories and warehouses, Blello also does something to help communities.

When you buy a Blello mattress, a portion of your purchase goes to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay, an organization that helps kids prepare for a better future.

Purchase Process

Blello Mattress Review

The purchase process is easy and straightforward like with many other online mattresses.

Visit their main product page to see the mattress. Because there are no comfort level choices (they only offer medium-firm), you only need to select your size and then checkout.

You can pay either using your credit card; or, check to see if you qualify for PayPal Credit financing.

Is Bello Right For You?  Take the Quiz (I did)

If you are hesitant about buying a Blello mattress, then take their short quiz that asks a few questions about whether you sleep alone, if you prefer sleeping hot or cold, your preferred firmness level and so on.  They promise to tell you whether their mattress is right for you, or not.

At first, I thought this was one of those lame marketing gimmicks to sell their mattress.

When I filled out the quiz the first time, I was told the Blello mattress is perfect for me, so I assumed everyone got the same answer regardless of how they answered the quiz.

So, to test it, I retook the quiz with completely different answers that should obviously lead to the conclusion that the medium-firm Blello mattress is not right for me.

To my surprise, I got this answer:

So, yeah, their quiz is not just for show.

It will help you decide whether to buy a Blello or look for an alternative that might be more ideal for your comfort needs.

100-Night Trial

Blello Mattress Review

Like most other mattresses in its price class, Blello provides a standard 100-night sleep trial period.

They ask that you sleep at least 30 days on your mattress before returning it, to allow your body to get used to it.

Most people, especially after sleeping on a terrible mattress, need a couple of weeks or so to adjust to a new mattress and fully appreciate it.

↑ Table of Contents

10-Year Warranty

Blello Mattress Review

The warranty is a standard ten years. However, it is a prorated warranty.

Blello only covers the full costs of repair or replacement during the first one and a half years of ownership.

After that, the amount of coverage decreases with time, eventually ending at 20% of the repair/replacement cost during years 8 to 10.

Unfortunately, we cannot know whether the mattress lasts long since it has only been around for a short time.

Shipping

Blello Mattress Review

Shipping is free within the contiguous United States. They don’t ship to Alaska or Hawaii.

It takes about 3-5 days for your mattress to be prepared for delivery and then another 1 to 5 business days for it to get to you.

So delivery will take anywhere between 4 and 10 business days from your order. You’ll get a tracking number when the mattress is shipped.

There is no expedited shipping option.

Delivery and Setup

Blello Mattress Review

Blello does not offer white glove delivery services.

The mattress will be delivered to your front door, so make arrangements for getting inside the house.

Setting this mattress up is easy. It comes rolled up in an easy-to-open box.

Once you remove the box, place the shrink-wrapped mattress on your foundation and cut away the plastic packaging to roll it out.

It then takes a few hours to decompress to its normal size completely.

Foundation & Frame

What type of bed frame/support does Blello require?

Blello can be placed on any sturdy non-spring frame as long as it is in good condition. This includes a slatted base, a solid foundation and adjustable base.

Does Blello work on an adjustable bed?

Yes, it does.

Care and Cleaning

Is a mattress protector needed for Blello?

Blello strongly recommends against removing the outer cover for washing, so it’s a good idea to use a mattress protector.

Do you need to rotate the Blello mattress?

It’s not necessary. Rotate it if you sleep alone on one side of the bed, or you have a significant weight difference with your partner.

Aesthetics and Styling

Blello Mattress Review

Blello is covered by a white cover with a textured surface. It’s a simple, minimalist design that looks good on any bed.

The mattress is also only 10 inches thick, so it looks great on any modern platform foundation.

Construction

Blello Mattress Review

Blello is 10 inches high and consists of 3 layers of foam plus a soft & stretchy cover.

1.5” Serene® Foam

This is a proprietary type of foam designed to provide memory foam-like contouring but with more responsiveness. As a result, it contours around your curves and joints in a comfortable body hug but you don’t feel like you are stuck in the mattress. This is also the main cooling layer. It dissipates heat and wicks moisture away from the mattress.

2.5” Qualatex™ Foam

Another proprietary foam, this one designed to resemble the firm support and responsiveness of latex foam. It holds up your weight, ensuring you don’t sink in too far. It also gives the mattress a nice bounciness that you’d normally get from a latex foam mattress.

6” support foam

A high-density layer of polyfoam provides overall support.

Mattress Cover

The cover is a 3-layer ticking fabric consisting of different yarns woven tightly for durability yet soft and breathable to keep the mattress cool.

Blello recommends against removing the cover for washing. If it gets stained, spot clean gently using a mild detergent. Even better, use a mattress protector.

Smell/Off-gassing

Any non-organic foam mattress will usually emit an odor when you first open the bag and set the mattress up. This is normal and is a result of the foam being ‘fresh.’

That said, I didn't notice much, if any, smell from our Blello.  Certainly nothing as bad as Allswell!

If you do notice an odor, it will go away quickly if you leave the mattress uncovered for a few hours.

Sleeping Experience

Blello Mattress Review

I found the Blello mattress to have a pleasant, soft-yet-responsive feel.

More responsive than memory foam, for sure.

This is technically a medium-firm mattress, but it’s slightly softer on the top than most medium firm mattresses I've tested. It has a deeper hug, which is a big plus for side sleepers like my husband.

For stomach sleepers, I'd go with something a bit firmer like Casper or Nectar.

Edge support is also surprisingly good for a 10-inch all-foam mattress. And the second latex-like layer does a fine job of pushing back and keeping your back properly aligned without feeling like you've bottomed-out on it.

Due to its thickness and softness, however, this is not the best choice for heavier / plus-sized sleepers (over 300 lbs). It won’t give you the kind of support you need to sleep comfortably. I'd buy a Big Fig or a Purple mattress, instead.

Firmness

Blello Mattress Review

Blello is a medium firm mattress though slightly softer than most other medium firm mattresses. I’d rate it at between 5 and 6 out of 10 on a scale of increasing firmness.

Most medium-firm mattresses fall between 6 and 7.

↑ Table of Contents

Sinkage

While it’s softer than some other foam mattresses, sinkage is average. This is due to the responsive foam that pushes you back as you push down into the mattress.

Motion Transfer

Blello Mattress Review

The level of motion transfer is on par with other quality foam mattresses.

There’s a bit of it, but not enough to keep waking you up in the middle of the night when your fidgety partner turns.

↑ Table of Contents

Hot/Cold Issues

Blello does an excellent job keeping you cool at night.

The breathable cover and the heat-dissipating foam layers do a great job siphoning heat away from you and out of the mattress.
