- This Mattress is Perfect for You If…
In this review, we breakdown the construction and design of the Luft mattress review. We also tell you how it feels, how much it costs, and where you can buy it.
Use this table of contents to skip to the features you care most about.
Luft is a recent online mattress startup. It was launched in 2017.
Currently, Luft sells two mattresses (the flagship Luft mattress and Little Luft for kids) as well as various bedding accessories.
Luft is not involved in any charitable programs at this time.
But they care a great deal about the environment. They use CertiPUR-US certified foams and an OEKO-TEX®-certified cover. The Luft mattresses produce fewer emissions, making it better for both sleepers and the environment.
Furthermore, Luft does all the manufacturing in the United States.
The best place to get a Luft mattress is on the official website at luftbeds.com.
Visit the Luft mattress product page to pick your preferred size and comfort level. All standard sizes from twin to Cal King are available.
As for firmness levels, there are three: Plush, Luxury Firm, and Firm. These correspond to the standard soft, medium, and firm comfort levels.
Finish your order and pay with a credit card or check if you qualify for financing.
Once you place an order, it will ship in 3-4 days.
Luft does not operate any brick and mortar stores. However, Luft mattresses are available at other retailers. Currently, you can buy a Luft mattress at Colorado Furniture in Conifer, Colorado, SleePare NYC, and SleePare in Mclean, Virginia.
Luft mattress costs about the same as other hybrid mattresses. It falls between memory foam mattresses and luxury mattresses.
Here's the full price list. Visit the official website for the latest prices and offers.
Luft Mattress Financing
There are two ways you can finance your Luft mattress purchase.
Visit the official Luft mattress website to learn more about Zibby and Affirm and pre-qualify.
One-Year Sleep Trial
You read that right. Luft mattress comes with a 1-year sleep trial. That's plenty of time to test your new mattress and get a proper feel of it.
You can find out whether it gets hot and stuffy in summer and if it keeps you warm and cozy in winter.
The long home trial also lets you see how well the mattress holds up, giving you an idea of how long it will last.
There's a mandatory 21-day break-in period. But after that, you can return the mattress at no cost if you don't like it. Luft will pick up the mattress from your home and send you a full refund.
If the problem is that the mattress is too firm or too soft, you can exchange your mattress for another firmness level. Only one exchange is allowed per order.
Note: Luft's trial and exchange policies apply only to mattresses bought on the official website, LuftBeds.com.
Your new mattress is covered with a boilerplate 10-year warranty. It covers all the usual stuff: manufacturing defects and indentations deeper than 1.5″.
Read the full Warranty here to find out all the conditions of coverage, including the right type of foundation to use.
Your Luft mattress will be shipped 3-4 business days after you place an order. After it ships, it takes 1-5 business days for UPS or FedEx home delivery.
Luft ships mattresses only within the Contiguous US. Shipping is free.
Delivery and Setup
Your new Luft mattress will arrive in a 20″ x 20″ x 40″ box. Only curbside delivery is available; you'll have to carry the mattress inside yourself.
We recommend having someone around to help you carry the box as it is heavy. Luft mattresses range between 100 and 150lbs in weight.
Once you set up the mattress, it takes a few hours to puff to its full size and completely off-gas.
Luft does not offer white glove delivery or old mattress removal.
Note: You do not have to unbox the mattress immediately it arrives. But do not leave it in the box for more than two weeks.
Foundation and Frame
What type of bed frame/support does the Luft Mattress require?
Luft says you can put the mattress on a box spring, platform frame, or a traditional solid foundation. If you are using a slatted frame, the slats should not be more than 4″ apart.
You can also place the Luft mattress directly on the floor. But air it frequently to prevent moisture build-up and possible mold development.
Does Luft work on an adjustable bed?
Yes, it does.
Care and Cleaning
Is a mattress protector needed for the Luft mattress?
Though the Luft mattress warranty does not mandate that you use a mattress protector, the manufacturer highly recommends it to protect the mattress from stains and liquids.
Do you need to rotate the Luft mattress?
Rotate the mattress six months, then once a year after that.
Being a one-sided mattress, you cannot flip the Luft mattress.
Aesthetics and Styling
The Luft mattress is covered in a patterned blue-grey stretch fabric. It looks more stylish and luxurious than other mattress covers, which are usually plain.
The tufted cover gives the mattress a high-end textured look.
Luft is a hybrid mattress, meaning it consists of both foam and coils. This combo provides the best support, comfort, pressure relief, and responsiveness.
Though construction varies slightly with each firmness level, they all share most materials.
The Plush and Luxury firm Luft mattresses have a gel-infused polyfoam layer at the top. The gel absorbs heat from your body, helping keep you cool at night.
All three mattresses feature a layer of memory foam infused with graphene. The memory foam provides body contouring while graphene conducts heat away from the mattress.
The Plush mattress contains Serene foam, a new type of foam constructed with billions of tiny airspaces inside.
This design allows Serene foam to sleep cool while offering the pressure relief and comfort of memory foam.
All three mattresses have a zoned pocket coil base. The zoned design provides support and contouring where you need them most.
Here's the specific construction layout for each Luft mattress.
- Gel-infused polyfoam
- 2″ graphene-infused memory foam
- 1″ Serene foam
- 5-zone pocket coils
- Gel-infused polyfoam
- 1″ graphene-infused memory foam
- 2″ adaptive HD foam
- 7-zone pocket coils
- Body-adaptive foam
- 2″ graphene-infused memory foam
- 7-zone pocket coils
The cover is made with a circular-knit stretch polyester fabric. It feels soft to the touch, and it's breathable, which helps with cooling and sweat-wicking.
Below the cover, the Luft mattress uses a cotton and rayon fire barrier – there is no chemical fire retardant in the mattress.
The Luft mattress has a ‘new foam' smell when you first open it. This is common in mattresses with synthetic foams, especially those that are compressed and delivered in a box.
But don't worry; the smell is harmless. Luft uses CertiPUR-US certified foams free of any dangerous chemicals that could give off harmful emissions.
Most customers did not notice the mild smell. But if it bothers you, leave the mattress uncovered in a well-ventilated room for 12-24 hours.
Your sleeping experience varies with the comfort level you choose. The plush mattress sinks and cuddles your body, the luxury firm mattress has a more balanced feel while the firm has a ‘floating on the mattress' feel.
Responsiveness is good for all mattresses, thanks to the pocket coil layer. But the bounciness is more noticeable in the luxury firm and firm options.
The Luft plush mattress is around 4/10 in terms of firmness, where ten is the firmest. Luft luxury firm is 6/10, and Luft firm is 7/10.
So, which one should you buy? Check which group you fall into below.
- Heavy back sleeper, stomach sleeper, 230lbs+ bodyweight, prefers to float on the mattress: Luft Firm
- Back sleeper, heavy side sleeper, stomach sleepers weighing less than 130lbs, combo sleepers, back pain sufferers, couples: Luft Luxury Firm
- Side sleeper, side sleepers with hip or shoulder pain, prefers to sink into the mattress: Luft Plush
Even with these guidelines, there's no guarantee you'll choose the perfect comfort level.
Luckily, with Luft's 1-year trial and exchange period, you don't have to worry about being stuck with a too-soft or too-firm mattress. Return the mattress or ask Luft to exchange it for a different firmness level.
Sinkage will depend on the mattress firmness you pick. The plush option has the most sinkage while the firm Luft has the least sinkage.
Unlike foam mattresses, Luft does not have extreme sinkage at the edges. The pocket coil layer boosts edge support, ensuring you sleep comfortably no matter where on the mattress you lie.
There's little to no motion transfer when sleeping on the Luft mattress. The pocketed coils do a great job of cutting off disturbance from your partner's movements before it reaches you.
The upper foam layers also absorb some of the motion.
The Luft mattress scores highly when it comes to temperature neutrality. The combination of a breathable cover, gel foam, graphene memory foam, and pocket coils keeps the mattress cool all year round.

The Luft mattress is one of our favorite hybrid mattresses. For an affordable price tag, it offers a luxury sleeping experience.
We also love the versatility. While most mattresses are available in just one comfort option, Luft lets you choose from three.
