About Nest Bedding
Nest Bedding is a family-owned mattress and bedding company that has been selling mattresses online for over 10 years now.
They started in 2011 and were one of the first companies to deliver bed-in-a-box mattresses directly to consumers.
Nest Bedding is still family-owned and manufactures mattresses in the USA.
Their mattresses, which include foam hybrid, latex hybrid, all-foam, and all-latex options, are known for their high-quality construction. Nest Bedding offers a lifetime warranty on their mattresses.
While Nest Bedding mostly operates online, they have some showrooms in a few states where you can visit to see and test their mattresses.
Don't worry if there isn’t a showroom near you. Nest Bedding gives you a whole year to test your new mattress at home. If you don't like it, returns are free.
Nest Bedding’s use of high-quality materials increases the lifespan of mattresses and reduces dumping in landfills.
Nest Bedding also lets customers swap the comfort layer on most of their mattresses, which doubles or triples the lifespan of the mattress.
Nest Bedding goes a long in ensuring its products are safe and environmentally friendly.
All their mattresses come with a number of certifications such as GOLS, GOTS, GREENGUARD GOLD, and CertiPUR-US.
The Piper mattress is the most expensive mattress from Nest Bedding. Organic latex doesn't come cheap.
That said, the Piper mattress is worth it. It’s certified organic and has a long lifespan that you can further extend by exchanging the comfort layer.
It’s likely you won’t need to buy another mattress for more than 10 years.
Here are the prices for the various sizes. Visit the official Nest Bedding website for the most recent prices as well as current discounts and offers.
Head on over to NestBedding.com to purchase the Piper mattress.
There are two quick steps to the order process. First, choose your size.
In addition to the usual sizes, couples can purchase a split King or Cal King, but you’ll need to contact the sales team to place an order.
Next, pick your preferred firmness level. There are two options: medium and firm.
And that’s it.
If you want, you can apply for Affirm or Shop Pay financing and pay for your new mattress in installments.
Nest Bedding has also partnered with Extend to offer mattress protection. You can add a 3, 5, or 10-year Extended protection to your order.
Extend offers free repairs in case of accidental damage to your mattress (things that the official Nest Bedding warranty doesn't cover like cuts and stains).
Shipping & Delivery
Shipping is free within the continental US. If you are ordering from Alaska or Hawaii, you’ll pay extra for freight.
It takes quite a bit of time for your order to be ready. That’s because the Piper mattress is handmade. The lead time before the mattress ships are 6-7 weeks.
But once it ships, expect it in 3-8 business days.
The Piper mattress will be shipped in multiple boxes. The Queen size weighs 170 lbs, so you’ll need some help carrying the boxes inside and setting up the heavy mattress.
Alternatively, contact Nest Bedding and request for white glove delivery (at an extra fee) where the mattress is delivered inside your home and set up for you.
Nest Bedding Piper is an 8-inch all-latex certified organic mattress. Here’s the layout of the mattress.
Organic Cotton and Wool Cover
The Nest Bedding Piper mattress comes with a quilted cover consisting of organic cotton and organic wool.
The 1” cover provides a nice pillow top-like cushioning. It’s also great for cooling and moisture-wicking.
Swappable 3” Dunlop latex comfort layer
The main comfort layer and the one that determines the firmness of the mattress is made with certified organic Dunlop latex.
This layer is encased in an organic cotton cover for protection and extra breathability.
You can access this layer by unzipping the quilted cover. This makes it easy to exchange it for a new layer if the mattress is uncomfortable or once it gets worn out.
4” Dunlop Latex Base
Also encased in organic cotton, the base layer of the Piper mattress is made with high-density organic Dunlop latex. It provides deep compression support and ensures the mattress lasts for years without sagging.
Manufacturing and Certifications
The Piper mattress is handmade in the USA.
All the components in the mattress are certified organic. The cotton and wool in the cover are GOTS certified organic.
Dunlop latex in the two layers of the mattress is GOLS certified organic.
The Piper mattress also has GREENGUARD GOLD certifications, meaning it has passed strict chemical emissions standards.
Comfort & Firmness
If you’ve never slept on a latex mattress, it’s a very different feel compared to memory foam.
Whereas a foam mattress will hug your body closely and reacts slowly to movement, the Piper latex mattress offers a more responsive feel.
It feels more like sleeping ‘on’ instead of ‘in’ the mattress.
You can choose from two Piper mattress firmness levels.
- Medium Piper mattress – This is the softer option that offers plenty of support while providing some give. It’s great for back sleepers and heavier side sleepers.
- Firm Piper mattress – Offers firm support with minimal give. Best choice for stomach sleepers and heavier back sleepers.
By the way, if you are ordering a split mattress, you can have Nest Bedding customize the firmness on each side. You can have your side medium while your partner’s side is firm.
Don't stress over picking the wrong mattress. You have a full year to test the mattress at home and return it if you don't like it. Nest Bedding also allows comfort exchanges for the top layer.
Here’s how the Nest Bedding Piper mattress rates in different areas of the sleeping experience.
The Piper offers excellent lumbar support for sleepers. Even the medium option is firm enough to hold up your weight.
Sleepers in all weight categories will find the Piper mattress adequately supportive.
Edge support is not as good as in a hybrid mattress with the pocket coil, but the edges of the Piple latex mattress hold up better than those of a foam mattress.
So you can still make full use of the entire surface of the mattress.
The medium Piper mattress offers enough pressure point relief for back sleepers.
If you are looking for a soft mattress that offers deep contouring, Piper is not for you. Get one of Nest Bedding’s hybrid mattresses (the Plush option) or get a memory foam mattress from another brand.
Type of Sleepers
Based on the support and pressure relief the Piper mattress offers, we recommend it for back and stomach sleepers.
Side sleepers will find both firmness options to be too firm and lacking in pressure relief.
The latex construction of the Piper mattress gives it a springy responsive feel.
It responds quickly when you move, making it effortless to change sleeping positions and get out of bed.
Natural latex is one of the best cooling materials in mattresses. It has excellent airflow and doesn't trap heat.
With its all-latex construction, the Piper mattress is a great choice for hot sleepers. It can also help with hot flashes.
The cover also works to keep you cool and sweat-free. Both cotton and wool are great at temperature-regulation and moisture-wicking.
The only downside of the springy feel of the Nest Bedding Piper mattress is that it has a bit of motion transfer.
If you or your partner is a very light sleeper, movement on one side of the bed might wake them up.
The Nest Bedding Piper is great for sex. It’s bouncy, offers great support for couples, quickly wicks away sweat, and it keeps the bed feeling cool and fresh.
Natural latex doesn't off-gas like polyurethane foam. The only smell you might get from the Piper mattress is a rubber sent from the latex. It goes away in a few days.
365-Night Trial & Comfort Exchange
As I mentioned, you have a full year to test the Piper mattress at home. Returns (after at least 30 nights) are free.
Instead of returning the mattress, you can request a comfort exchange for $100. Nest Bedding will send you a firmer or softer Dunlop latex layer to swap with the one in the mattress.
Even after the 365-night trial, you can still order just the comfort layer to refresh your mattress.
Nest Bedding offers a lifetime warranty on the Piper. It covers indentations deeper than one inch as well as any manufacturing defects.
It doesn't cover accidental damage. For that, Nest Bedding has partnered with Extend to offer 3, 5, and 10-year protection plans.
Nest Bedding Piper Mattress Cleaning & Care
You cannot wash the cover of the Piper mattress, so a waterproof mattress protector is highly recommended.
To extend the life of your mattress, Nest Bedding recommends flipping or rotating the top layer every six months.
Nest Bedding Piper Mattress Setup & Foundation
Set up the Piper mattress on a sturdy foundation. If the mattress gets damaged by an improper foundation, it will not be covered by the warranty.
You can also set up the mattress on an adjustable base.
Piper Mattress Pros and Cons
- Certified organic – healthy and eco-friendly.
- Excellent support.
- Sleeps cool.
- 1-year trial and lifetime warranty.
- Not suitable for side sleepers.
If you prefer buying eco-friendly or natural bedding, Nest Bedding Piper is one of the best mattresses on the market. It’s certified organic from top to bottom.
