Most of us spend time researching the quality of our next mattress and our pillows and leave the sheets as an afterthought. This is a mistake.
After you sleep a week on Parachute’s Percale or Sateen luxury sheets, you'll understand why. Especially their Sateen sheets, which feel incredibly, buttery soft after a washing or two.
Both of Parachute's cotton sheet sets, Percale and Sateen, include one fitted sheet and two pillowcases. A top sheet is not included, but you can add it to your order at checkout.
So let's dive in and learn all about this popular high-end line of sheets.
About the Company
Parachute is one of several startups that are making waves in the new direct-to-consumer bedding industry.
The company was founded in 2014 by Ariel Kaye, someone who wanted the same soft sheets she’d experienced at a hotel in Italy. She could not find them, so she started manufacturing her own.
Today, Parachute sells a wide range of luxury home goods at accessible prices.
What Makes Parachute Luxury Sheets Unique
Well, for one: they are not cheap.
The Sateen set ranges from $129 for a twin size to $169 for a Cal King.
The Percale set starts at $109 for a twin size to $149 for Cal King.
Prices are higher if you add a top sheet to your order.
These prices may surprise you if you are used to buying sheets at big box stores. But these are not your normal bedsheets.
Parachute manufactures the sheets in Portugal in a family-owned factory.
The fabrics are Oeko-Tex certified, meaning they don’t contain any harmful chemicals and are manufactured with environmental protection as a priority.
One way in which they stand out is the softening process. Most companies use chemicals like silicon and formaldehyde to make their sheets softer.
Parachute’s sheets are stonewashed.
Parachute's Sateen set is the softer one, and as I mentioned, it gets even softer after you wash it. This is the popular set raced about all over the internet and is the best choice if you want to come home to a soft, luxurious bed.
Parachute's other choice, their Percale set, starts a bit crispy but softens up with every wash. One thing to look out for with Percale is the wrinkles. You might wake up with crease lines on your cheek from the pillowcase.
To reduce the wrinkles, you should fit the sheet on the mattress as soon as it dries. You can also iron it on low heat before putting it on the bed.
For cooling your body, the Percale sheet set is the better choice. This material is more breathable than the Sateen, making it perfect for those who experience hot flushes or live in hot climates.
Parachute's Sateen is heavier weight than most other Sateen sheets. It sleeps cool under most normal circumstances (no night sweats, cool weather, etc.) but does tend to warm up when the nights get warm. You may want to think about buying a different Percale sheet set for the hottest summer months.
If you are heat-sensitive but want the softer Sateen set, another simple solution is to fit the sheet over a cooling pad or to use a bed climate-control system like Bedjet.
- Parachute's Sateen set is incredibly comfortable and luxurious – exactly as claimed.
- Parachute's Percale sheets are excellent too if a tad expensive vs. alternatives.
- Natural materials that are good for your health and the environment.
- Sets don't include a top sheet. You have to buy one separately.
Parachute's Percale and Sateen sheets are both made from the same material – long-staple Egyptian cotton.
The difference is in the weaving process, which results in two different textures and experiences.
Percale is the basic variety. It is soft to the touch, though not as soft as sateen. But with repeated washes, it softens even more.
It does wrinkle quite a bit but not enough to make your sleeping experience uncomfortable.
Sateen is the more luxurious one. It feels softer out of the box and wrinkles less. It gets softer after the first wash and keeps on softening with every wash.
Because of the natural materials, these sheets are more delicate than the ones available at most stores.
Parachute includes very detailed care instructions with the sheets and on their website.
They ask that you avoid harsh detergents, bleach, and too much heat. For machine washing, wash on cool. For tumble-drying, do it on low. If you have to iron, use the lowest heat setting.
