Zoma Mattress Review
Summary
Zoma is a pressure-relieving memory foam mattress targeted towards athletes. It’s priced lower than most memory foam mattresses of similar quality.
Great choice for: Athletes and anyone looking for a conforming memory foam mattress that relieves pressure on the shoulders, hips, back, and other joints.
Avoid if: You prefer sleeping on a bouncy mattress (get a hybrid mattress instead). Also not ideal for sleepers weighing more than 230lbs.
For athletes and active sleepers, the most important factor when choosing a mattress is muscle recovery. You should enjoy deep, uninterrupted sleep to allow your muscles to recover and grow.
Zoma mattress is designed to provide the comfort and support you need to sleep deeply.
The zoned memory foam top layer provides targeted body contouring and pressure relief while the other two layers support your body and align your spine.
You don’t have to be an athlete or a gym rat to benefit from the Zoma mattress. Anyone who needs a pressure-relieving mattress with just the right amount of support will love Zoma.

About Zoma
Zoma is a bedding company in Scottsdale, Arizona. The founders created the company intending to help athletes improve their performance through better sleep.
Currently, the company sells the Zoma mattress, foundation, and pillow, what a performance-enhancing sleep system.
Social Impact
Zoma manufactures its products, including the foam mattress, in the United States, which creates high-quality jobs.
The Zoma mattress uses CertiPUR-US certified foam, which guarantees it is safe and eco-friendly. It doesn’t contain ozone depleters, formaldehyde, or any bad stuff that can affect your health.
Another thing we love about Zoma is that they donate some of the returned mattresses to charity.
Purchase Process
Zoma does not operate any brick and mortar stores. The mattress is available on Amazon and Walmart websites, but we recommend buying from the official website at ZomaSleep.com.
The purchase process is straightforward. The Zoma mattress is available in one comfort option. All you need to do is select your preferred mattress size and check out.
All standard sizes from twin to California King are available. You can also order a split King.
Price
Zoma is priced lower than other popular memory foam mattresses like Casper and Leesa. Only the split King crosses the $1,000 line.
Here’s the current price list. Visit the official website for the latest prices and offers.
Unlike most online mattress companies, Zoma does not offer financing.
100-Night Sleep Trial
Zoma Sleep offers a standard 100-night sleep trial for their mattress. There’s a 30-night break-in period. After that, you can return the mattress for a full refund.
The company will arrange a free mattress pickup from your home.
10-Year Warranty
The Warranty is also pretty standard: 10 years of non-prorated coverage. The Warranty covers depressions greater than 0.75” and any manufacturing defects such as a torn seam or split foam.
Read the full Warranty for all the terms and conditions of coverage.
Shipping
Shipping is free to all 48 states in the contiguous United States. Shipping to Hawaii and Alaska costs extra. Contact Zoma for shipping charges.
Delivery & Setup
From the day you order your new Zoma mattress, it’ll take less than a couple of weeks for FedEx to deliver it to your home.
Zoma offers curbside delivery. They don’t have a white glove delivery service. So make sure you have someone around to help you carry the mattress inside, as it is quite heavy.
A word of warning: wait until you’ve placed the mattress on the foundation to unroll it.
Once you’ve unrolled it and it begins to expand, it is very difficult to move even with two people lifting it. Don’t even think about unboxing it in your living room to see what it looks like.
Take it to the bedroom, remove the box then place the still-rolled up mattress at the bottom of the bed. Cutaway the plastic and roll out the mattress.
It will take a couple of days to expand fully, but you can sleep on it on the first night.
Foundation and Frame
What type of bed frame/support does the Zoma Mattress require?
The Zoma warranty requires a solid, non-springy foundation. This can be a solid wood base, a slatted platform, or a traditional foundation.
If you want to use a box spring, you must place a Bunkie board on top. The board must be at least 0.75” thick.
Failure to use a Bunkie board with a box spring will void the Warranty.
Does Zoma work on an adjustable bed?
Yes, it does.
Care and Cleaning
Is a mattress protector needed for the Zoma mattress?
Yes, you need a mattress protector. The Zoma mattress cover cannot be washed, only spot cleaned.
To prevent stains and moisture damage to the cover and mattress, use a waterproof mattress protector.
Do you need to rotate the Zoma mattress?
The manufacturer does not specify such a requirement.
However, it’s a good idea to rotate the mattress every few months if you and your partner have a significant weight difference, or you sleep alone on one side of the bed.
Note that Zoma is a single-sided mattress, so don’t try to flip it.
Aesthetics and Styling
The Zoma memory foam mattress has a simple modern styling. It’s wrapped in a gray cover with triangular patterns on the surface.
Construction
The Zoma mattress has a simple 3-layer construction: a pressure-relief comfort layer on top, a responsive transition layer, and a supportive base.
Here are more details on each layer.
2” Zoned Triangulex Memory Foam
The first layer your body interacts with is soft plush memory foam. It easily conforms to your body, relieving pressure on your back, hips, and shoulders.
This top layer has a zoned design. Three zones provide targeted support and pressure relief to specific sections of your body.
The upper (head & shoulders) and lower (upper and lower legs) zones consist of triangular segments (hence the name Triangulex) that improve contouring and pressure relief.
The middle zone (hips and lower back) is smooth to boost lumbar and spinal alignment.
2” Reactiv™ Layer
The transition layer consists of polyfoam specially designed to offer better responsiveness than standard polyfoam.
While the Zoma mattress is nowhere near as bouncy as a latex or hybrid mattress, it’s easier to change sleeping positions and move around on the Zoma mattress compared to most memory foam mattresses.
7” HD Base
The base is made from high-density polyfoam. It provides deep compression support and keeps the mattress in good form for years.
Mattress Cover
The cover consists of a breathable mesh fabric made from polyester (97%) and spandex (3%).
Smell/Off-gassing
The Zoma mattress is made with polyurethane foam mattresses. Freshly manufactured foam has a signature smell. You’ll notice it when you unbox and unroll the Zoma mattress.
The smell is harmless. The CertiPUR foams used in the Zoma mattress have no harmful emissions.
The smell goes away in a few days. To get rid of it quicker, air the mattress in a well-ventilated room.
Sleeping Experience
Zoma has that classic memory foam feel, but better. The biggest difference between Zoma and other memory foam mattresses is the zoned design of the top layer.
The zoned design allows the Zoma mattress to deliver better contouring than other memory foam mattresses.
This is especially beneficial to athletes. With the mattress gently hugging your sore joints, you’ll sleep better and recover more effectively.
The other two firmer layers of the mattress balance out the memory foam layer, to ensure you don’t get that ‘stuck in bed’ feeling.
These support layers also provide excellent lumbar support, which keeps your spine properly aligned.
As for bounciness, the Zoma mattress is fairly responsive to a memory foam mattress. The Reactiv layer adds a bit of bounce to the mattress.
Where the mattress scores fair marks are edge support, but this is to be expected from an all-foam mattress.
Firmness
Zoma is a medium mattress, with a firmness range of 5-6 out of 10. The specific firmness you experience depends on your body weight. For lighter sleepers, it will trend towards 6, while for heavier sleepers, it’ll be closer to 5.
The medium feel makes Zoma a universal comfort mattress. Most sleepers will find it comfortable in different sleeping positions.
Side sleepers will appreciate the hip and shoulder pressure relief from the memory foam layer. Back sleepers will benefit from the lumbar support offered by the transition and base layers.
For stomach sleepers, we recommend Zoma only to those who weigh under 130lbs. Average weight and overweight sleepers will find the memory foam too soft for their liking.
We also don’t recommend Zoma to any type of sleeper weighing over 230lbs. The mattress will have too much give, which will affect spinal alignment and can lead to serious back pain.
Sinkage
Sinkage is a bit more than other foam mattresses. The Zoma mattress has a slightly deeper hug than you get from most foam mattresses.
Along the edges, sinkage is more because of reduced edge support. You’ll want to stay a couple of inches away from the edge of the mattresses when you sleep.
Motion Transfer
There’s very little motion transfer in the Zoma mattress. The foam layers absorb almost all disturbances, ensuring you sleep peacefully next to your partner, who can’t stop tossing and turning.
Hot/Cold Issues
The breathable mesh cover helps keep the Zoma mattress fairly cool. But on warm nights, it can get a bit hot.
If you are a hot sleeper, see our reviews of the best cooling mattresses for alternatives.
If you still want to get the Zoma mattress, we recommend buying a cooling pad. Get a medium-firm pad to keep the mattress from feeling overly soft.
