Mattress Construction
Both PlushBeds Botanical Bliss and Zenhaven are made with natural latex. However, there are some significant differences in how they are constructed.
PlushBeds Botanical Bliss
The Botanical Bliss is an all-latex foam mattress made with GOLS-certified organic latex. It’s available in three size options: 9, 10 and 12 inches.
The 9 and 10-inch sizes have two layers of latex: a softer Talalay latex layer on top of a firm Dunlop latex base.
The 12-inch size has an additional transition layer made with Dunlop latex.
The inner layers are wrapped in an organic cotton cover with organic wool batting that provides cooling, wicks away sweat and acts as a natural fire barrier.
Zenhaven
Zenhaven is also an all-latex mattress made with natural Talalay latex. It’s 10 inches thick.
The most significant difference from the Botanical Bliss mattress is that Zenhaven is two-sided. The latex layers are arranged in a way that you can sleep on either side of the mattress, each with a different comfort feel.
The softer side has a 1.5” body-cradling layer of soft Talalay latex and a 3” support base.
The firmer side has a 1.5” firmer layer of Talalay latex and a 3” support base.
So overall, the mattress has a 6” core with a 1.5” comfort layer on each side. A 1” layer of organic wool sewn into the organic cotton cover rounds out the total mattress height to 10 inches.
Comfort and Firmness
One thing we love about both the Botanical Bliss and Zenhaven mattresses is that they are designed to appeal to most kinds of sleepers.
PlushBeds Botanical Bliss
When ordering the Botanical Bliss, you can choose between a medium and a medium-firm comfort feel.
The medium cradles your body more and is suitable for side sleepers and people weighing under 230lbs.
The medium-firm has a more rigid feel and offers more support for stomach sleepers, back sleepers and people weighing over 230lbs.
Zenhaven
Zenhaven also offers two comfort options. However, unlike the Botanical Bliss, both options are available in a single mattress.
The two-sided Zenhaven mattress has a medium feel on one side (what Saatva calls Luxury Plush) and a firm feel on the other (what Saatva calls Gentle Firm).
The advantage of the flippable 2-in-1 design is that you don't need to worry you’ve ordered the wrong firmness level. If you find one side is not comfortable, simply flip the mattress and test the other side.
It also reduces the chances that you’ll need to return the mattress and begin looking for a new mattress all over again.
Another advantage is that you don't need to buy a new mattress in the future if your comfort needs change. If, for example, you switch from sleeping on your back to your side, you can flip the mattress to the softer side.
Sleeping Experience
PlushBeds and Zenhaven share a lot in terms of sleeping experience, such as cooling, responsiveness, and edge support, but there are several differences as well.
PlushBeds Botanical Bliss
If you are coming from a memory foam mattress, the Botanical Bliss will feel a lot different. Latex doesn't have the cradling feel of foam and bounces back quickly when you move.
But the top Talalay latex layer, particularly the one in the medium comfort mattress, is still soft enough to reduce pressure points, especially for side sleepers.
The upside of the Botanical Bliss latex construction is better support and spinal alignment. The added responsiveness (bounciness) is also great for sex (Bonus – the mattress is super quiet).
Another area where the Botanical Bliss organic latex mattress wins over foam mattresses is cooling performance. Latex stays naturally cool. The organic cotton and wool cover further keeps you cool and sweat-free.
Motion transfer is more noticeable in the Botanical Bliss compared to foam mattresses. But it’s not enough to wake you up when your partner moves.
Where the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss could use some improvement is edge support. If you sleep near the edge of your bed, you’ll get reduced support.
Zenhaven
Because Zenhaven uses Talalay latex throughout the mattress, it has a softer, more buoyant feel compared to PlushBeds Botanical Bliss that mixes Talalay and Dunlop latex.
The medium side is especially plush. You’ll not sink into it like you would memory foam, but it’s still great for side sleepers and folks with shoulder or hip pain.
The firm side offers great support for back and stomach sleepers.
Zenhaven is not as bouncy as PlushBeds (again, because of all that Talalay latex), but it’s still more responsive than a foam mattress. We think most couples will be satisfied with the amount of bounce the mattress offers. And because Zenhaven has no coils, it stays silent.
The softer Talalay latex has another advantage; it absorbs more motion. You’ll experience less motion transfer when your partner moves. If you are a light sleeper, we recommend Zenhaven over PlushBeds Botanical Bliss.
The cooling performance for the Zenhaven mattress is just as good as that of the PlushBeds mattress. The natural latex doesn't trap any heat, and the organic cotton and wool cover offers excellent breathability and moisture-wicking.
Similar to Botanical Bliss, the Zenhaven mattress has average edge support.
Warranty and Returns
Here’s what each company offers in terms of returns, home trial and warranty coverage.
PlushBeds Botanical Bliss
PlushBeds offer a 100-night in-home trial. If you don't like it after 30 nights of sleeping on the Botanical Bliss, you can request a softer or firmer layer to replace the top layer of the mattress.
PlushBeds doesn't charge anything for the exchange.
If you’d instead return the entire mattress and look for another one, you can send it back at your own cost or have PlushBeds arrange a pickup, for which you’ll be charged $149 for shipping.
The warranty is 25 years long. For 10 years, you get a full warranty. For the remaining 15 years, the warranty is prorated.
Zenhaven
Saatva offers a longer 180-night in-home trial for the Zenhaven mattress, giving you more time to test the mattress.
If you don't like it, Saatva will arrange a pickup and charge you $99 for shipping and labor.
Shipping and Delivery
Because both Botanical Bliss and Zenhaven mattresses are made to order, they take between 1 and 3 weeks to be shipped and delivered to your home.
PlushBeds offers free delivery within the contiguous United States. But this is only up to your doorstep. If you want help with setup, see if there’s a local service company offering furniture setup.
Saatva charges a flat $99 fee to ship the Zenhaven mattress within the contiguous United States. They’ll bring the heavy mattress inside your home and set it up for you. They can also take away your old mattress if you want.
Foundation and Frame
Because latex mattresses are heavy, the Botanical Bliss and Zenhaven mattresses work best (and last longest) when placed on a solid foundation or base.
We do not recommend traditional box springs, as they don't work very well with heavy mattresses. The springs can sag over time, compromising the structure and support of the mattress.
Both mattresses are compatible with adjustable bases.
Care and Cleaning
Because both Zenhaven and PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattresses have delicate organic cotton and wool covers, the only cleaning option is spot cleaning with water and mild detergent.
To avoid dirt and stains in the first place, use a waterproof mattress protector. It’ll not only protect the mattress, but it’ll also keep the bed cleaner and allergen-free.
