What's In This Mattress Review
Who Are Tempur-Pedic Mattress Toppers Ideal For?
Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers are ideal for anyone looking for a premium memory foam topper for an old or too-firm mattress.
You can use Tempur-Pedic toppers to improve your mattress’s pressure relief and lumbar support. These toppers are also great for people with back pain. The memory foam material will reduce pressure on your back and improve spinal alignment.
Tempur-Pedic toppers cost more than memory foam toppers from other brands. Though they consistently receive high ratings and positive feedback from customers, you can find other highly rated but cheaper memory foam toppers with close to the same sleeping experience.
But if you don’t mind spending a bit more money on a proven brand, Tempur-Pedic is a great choice.

Tempur-Pedic Mattress Topper Reviews
Let’s get down to business and review each Topper, starting with the popular Supreme topper.
1. Best for Comfort & Support: TEMPUR-Topper Supreme
Three inches of original TEMPUR material are enough to transform and old bed to make it feel like new. The TEMPUR-Topper Supreme is also a great choice for softening a too-firm mattress.
Pros
- Excellent body contouring and pressure relief.
- Great for back pain.
- Durable.
- Removable and washable cover.
- Sleeps cool.
Cons
- Pricey.
- Not ideal for soft mattresses.
Our Review
The TEMPUR-Topper Supreme is made with the same TEMPUR material that Tempur-Pedic uses in their luxury mattresses.
It’s memory foam but better than ordinary memory foam. It easily adapts to your body, providing a soft, pressure-relieving body hug.
Unlike ordinary memory foam, it doesn’t get hot. Instead, it adapts to your body’s natural temperature. While it may not actively cool you down, you won’t get hot either. It’s a temperature-neutral material.
Another advantage of the TEMPUR material over ordinary memory foam is that it lasts longer without deforming or breaking down, two common problems with cheaper memory foam toppers.
With a thickness of 3”, the TEMPUR-Topper Supreme is great even for worn-out mattresses. It evens out the surface of the mattress, which improves spinal alignment.
You can also use it if your mattress feels a tad too firm. The Topper introduces a softer surface that hugs your body and relieves pressure on your shoulders, hips, lower back, and other pressure points.
If your partner wakes you up when they toss and turn or get up from bed, the TEMPUR-Topper Supreme can help. The foam absorbs movements, reducing motion transfer, especially on hybrid, latex, and innerspring mattresses.
The TEMPUR-Topper Supreme is not just useful on mattresses. You can also use it on a sofa bed or even a sofa to create a temporary sleeping space for a guest.
In a pinch, you can also use it on its own, though it may not provide adequate support, especially if you sleep on it daily.
TEMPUR-Topper Supreme is available in all standard sizes ranging from twin to Cal King. It’s available in just one comfort level – medium.
Issues & Limitations
The TEMPUR material used in TEMPUR-Topper Supreme is not without drawbacks. For one, it may not feel very supportive for heavier sleepers.
Some users found the Topper too soft, and they sunk into it.
Another limitation is that you cannot use the TEMPUR-Topper Supreme on a too-soft mattress to make it firmer.
Because the Topper itself is fairly soft, it’ll worsen support and overall sleeping experience.
If the problem with your mattress is that it’s too soft, consider buying a latex topper instead.
There’s also the issue of price. The TEMPUR-Topper Supreme is the most expensive Topper from Tempur-Pedic. It’s also one of the most expensive memory foam toppers in the market.
If you are on a budget, TEMPUR-Topper Supreme is not the best choice.
Bottom Line
Though pricey, the TEMPUR-Topper Supreme does transform your sleeping experience. Customers talk about back pain disappearing, reduced tossing and turning and immensely better sleep quality.
2. Best for Pressure Relief: TEMPUR-Adapt + Cooling Topper
Need an even softer topper? We recommend the TEMPUR-Adapt + Cooling topper. In place of TEMPUR material, it uses TEMPUR-ES, a softer type of memory foam.
It’s great for extra-firm mattresses and sleepers who need better pressure relief for their hips, shoulders, or back.
Pros
- Excellent pressure relief.
- Great for hip and shoulder pain.
- Softens too-firm mattresses.
- Includes a cooling cover.
Cons
- Even with the cooling cover, it can get a bit too warm for hot sleepers.
- Not ideal for soft mattresses.
- Pricey.
Our Review
The TEMPUR-Adapt + Cooling topper is soft, really soft. Before you order it, be sure that you need an extra-soft topper.
We’ve seen several customers say it was softer than they expected and didn’t provide the kind of support they were looking for.
The 3” thickness gives it an even plusher feel. This is the kind of Topper that you sink into.
We recommend it mostly for side sleepers who find their mattress too firm. The TEMPUR-Adapt + Cooling topper hugs your hip and shoulder, preventing uncomfortable pressure points.
It’s also the best Tempur-Pedic Topper for side sleepers with shoulder or hip pain. If you are recovering from hip surgery or you have a shoulder injury, the TEMPUR-Adapt + Cooling topper cradles your body to prevent pain.
The reason the TEMPUR-Adapt + Cooling topper is so soft is that it’s made with TEMPUR-ES, a much softer type of memory compared to the original TEMPUR material.
It hugs your body more closely, easily conforming to your joints and curves.
Use it to soften a too-firm mattress or rejuvenate an old and hard mattress. You can also use it on sofa beds or on the sofa to make a temporary sleeping space.
Because of how closely the foam contours to your body, it absorbs more heat than TEMPUR. To prevent overheating, the Topper comes with a cooling cover.
The TEMPUR-Adapt + Cooling topper is available in all standard sizes.
Issues & Limitations
The cooling cover helps most sleepers sleep comfortably without overheating. But it’s not quite enough for those who sleep hot.
Many hot sleepers say the Topper can get a bit too warm. If you are a hot sleeper, we recommend the TEMPUR-Topper Supreme instead.
Similar to the TEMPUR-Topper Supreme, the TEMPUR-Adapt + Cooling topper is ideal only for softening a too-firm mattress. If you want to improve support on a soft mattress, get a latex topper instead.
Another downside these two Tempur-Pedic toppers share is the price tag. They are both more expensive than ordinary memory foam toppers.
Bottom Line
If you want an ultra-plush sleeping experience without spending thousands on a luxury pillow-top mattress, the TEMPUR-Adapt + Cooling topper is the next best thing.
It boosts pressure relief, easily adapts to your body, and eases the pain on hips and shoulders.
3. Best Budget: Serenity by Tempur-Pedic
Tempur-Pedic doesn’t talk much about the Serenity topper. You won’t even find it on their official website. It is available on Amazon and other retail sites like Costco.
It’s not clear what material the Serenity topper uses, but it’s likely ordinary memory foam considering the low price point compared to other Tempur-Pedic toppers.
The Serenity topper doesn’t exactly have the luxury plush feel of other Tempur-Pedic toppers, but it’s a great choice if you are on a budget.
Pros
- Great price.
- Pressure-relieving without being too soft.
- Breathable cover that’s removable and washable.
Cons
- Not ideal for hot sleepers.
- Not ideal for soft mattresses.
Our Review
The Serenity topper doesn’t match the luxury of the other two Tempur-Pedic toppers. But it’s still pretty comfortable for anyone looking for a pressure-relieving topper.
The memory foam Serenity topper has a medium-feel, making it great for side and back sleepers looking to soften their firm mattress.
It is also good for people with back pain and side sleepers with hip or shoulder pain.
The Serenity topper also does a great job with motion isolation. If you wake up whenever your partner turns or gets up from the bed, the Serenity topper will help you sleep more peacefully.
The Topper is 3” thick, so it makes a big difference in how your bed feels compared to a 2” or 1” topper. It’s great for old mattresses, too-firm mattresses as well as couches and sofa beds.
You can also use it as a bed on its own but only temporarily. If you sleep on it daily, the lack of support can cause back problems.
The Serenity topper comes with a removable cover that’s machine washable.
Issues & Limitations
If you are a hot sleeper, Serenity can feel a bit too warm. The soft memory foam hugs your body close, absorbing, and retaining most of your body heat.
Several customers have complained about waking up hot.
The breathable cover helps a bit with Cooling and moisture-wicking, but we still recommend looking for an alternative.
If you don’t mind the price tag, get the Supreme topper. It is temperature-neutral. If you need more Cooling, buy a latex or gel memory foam topper.
Bottom Line
Despite the Tempur-Pedic brand name, the Serenity mattress topper is surprisingly affordable. It’s not quite as good as the Supreme and Adapts toppers but, for the money, it’s a great bargain.
How to Clean a Tempur-Pedic Mattress Topper
Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers are made with memory foam, so you cannot wash them.
But you can wash the removable cover included with each Tempur-Pedic topper. Wash in cold water with mild detergent and on a gentle setting. Lay the cover flat to dry or tumble dry at a low heat setting.
For smaller stains, you can spot clean with cold water and mild detergent. Remove the cover first before spot cleaning it and put it back over the topper once it is fully dry.
Because the Tempur-Pedic topper covers are delicate, you don't want to wash it too frequently. We recommend getting a waterproof mattress protector and placing it over both the topper and the mattress.
That way, you’ll never need to wash the cover and it’ll last longer.
Tempurpedic Mattress Toppers: Frequently Asked Questions
Are Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers worth it?
Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers cost more than other memory foam toppers. But they are worth it mainly because of the quality of memory foam.
Tempur-Pedic uses its own special memory foam formulations that offer more support, better pressure relief and last longer than ordinary memory foam.
One of the indications that Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers are of better quality is how heavy they are. They are about 10-15lbs heavier than other 3” memory foam toppers.
Can I use a Tempur-Pedic topper on any mattress?
Tempurpedic’s memory foam mattress toppers can be used with any kind of mattress including memory foam mattresses, hybrid mattresses, and even latex mattresses.
It can be a mattress from Tempur-Pedic like the Rhapsody Breeze or any other brand like Casper, PlushBeds, Nest Bedding, and others.
What matters most is not the type or brand of mattress, but how it feels.
If your mattress feels too firm, get the Tempur Adapt or Serenity mattress topper. If it is too soft, add more support with the Tempur Supreme mattress topper.
Do you need to flip your Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers?
You don't need to flip a Tempur-Pedic mattress topper. These toppers are made with high-quality memory foam that doesn't crate over time.

How long does it take for a Tempurpedic mattress topper to expand?
Once you unbox the compressed Tempurpedic topper, it takes about 48 hours to fully expand to its 3 inch thickness.
But you can sleep on it immediately since it starts expanding the moment you unpack it.
What’s the difference between the Tempur Supreme and Tempur Adapt mattress toppers?
The Tempur-Topper Supreme is the firmer mattress topper of the two. It has a medium-firm feel that’s perfect for adding lumbar support to a too-soft mattress.
The Tempur-Adapt has a softer plusher feel that adds pressure relief and contouring to a too-firm mattress.
Do Tempur-Pedic toppers sleep cool?
Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers generally sleep cooler than other memory foam toppers. The Tempur-Adapt topper has the best cooling capability thanks to the special cool-to-the-touch cover.
That said, these are still memory foam toppers, so they can feel a bit too warm for those who sleep extra-hot or those who are sensitive to even a little bit of heat.
Latex and wool toppers are the best for cooling.
How long do Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers last?

Are Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers good for back pain?
The Tempur-Topper Supreme is the best choice for people with back pain. It offers a balance of comfort and support, which ensures a proper sleeping posture.
However, if you suspect your back pain is being caused by a mattress that’s too firm, try the Adapt or Serenity topper. A softer topper will reduce pressure on your back and improve spinal alignment.
Can I use a Tempur-Pedic mattress topper on a sofa?
Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers are not just for mattresses. You can use a Tempurpedic topper to make a temporary sleeping surface more comfortable such as a sofa, a sofa bed, an air mattress, or a futon.
Final Verdict
Tempur-Pedic has built its brand around pricey but high-quality mattresses. Their mattress toppers are the same. They are more expensive than the competition but deliver a superior sleeping experience.

I purchased the Serenity king topper. I have it for three days and there is an indentation where I sleep. I’m only 125lbs. Should this be happening. Other than that I’m happy with it
Bought the Serenity mattress topper in Oct 2020, 6 months later it is splitting apart. What would be causing that? Just one person sleeps on it.
I don’t think the Tempur Topper Supreme is available anymore. I ordered one in January, 2023 on Amazon and was sent a Tempur Adapt topper. I returned it, thinking it was sent in error. Re-ordered a Supreme topper, then called the fulfillment center to make sure they actually had Supreme toppers. They told me that the Supreme toppers were being replaced by Adapt toppers and that I would receive a second Adapt topper. I then canceled my second order. I would definitely order another Supreme topper if I thought I would receive one. Amazon rejected my review.
