How Do Loom & Leaf and Purple Mattress Compare?

Similarities

Both are all-foam mattresses though they use different kinds of foam. They contain no innersprings or support coils.

They both offer third-party financing for mattress purchases. Loom & Leaf works with Klarna while Purple mattress buyers can use Affirm.

You’ll get a great sleeping experience with either mattress. They have good support and pressure relief.

Key Differences

Though both have an all-foam construction, they are very different in almost all other areas. Let’s begin with what they are made of.

Purple uses a special material called Hyper-Elastic Polymer with a unique grid structure. Loom & Leaf, on the other hand, is a memory foam mattress.

Because of the difference in construction, each mattress feels different. Purple has a slightly firm and rigid feel while Loom & Leaf has a plusher more luxurious feel.

Regarding pricing, Purple is the cheaper one.

They also have different warranty policies and return periods.

Construction

Loom & Leaf

Loom and Leaf construction

The Loom & Leaf mattress is 12 inches thick with four layers of foam.

Gel memory foam–This is the main comfort layer. It feels soft and plush, which makes it excellent for contouring and pressure relief. The cooling gel infused into it helps to dissipate heat away from the mattress. So even though it’s memory foam (which is known for its heat retention), the mattress stays cool.

5lbs visco-elastic foam –This is a denser memory foam layer that distributes your weight evenly to ensure you get proper support and alignment. It also ensures you don’t sink in too much especially if you have a bigger body. In the firmer Loom & Leaf, this layer is denser to provide extra firmness and support.

2″ Transition pad –This layer adds to the compression support provided by the second layer. It comes in especially handy for couples. It keeps the mattress from cratering and sagging after just a few years of use.

6” base –A high-density polyfoam base for overall support and longevity.

The Loom & Leaf mattress cover is made from organic cotton. This makes it good at wicking away body sweat and keeping the mattress cool. It’s quilted with a thin layer of foam for added comfort.

Purple

Nectar vs Purple Mattress

Purple is much thinner at 9.5 inches. It consists of 3 layers.

2” Hyper-elastic polymer –This is where Purple’s magic happens. This layer has a special design that Purple calls the Smart Comfort Grid. It’s designed to provide support and pressure relief exactly where you need it. Under high-pressure points like your hips and shoulders, the mattress contours around your body and feels comfortably soft. Under your back or stomach, it provides firmer support.

3.5” 1.8lbs polyfoam –This layer shores up support and holds up your weight without cratering.

4” 2lbs polyfoam base – The high-density base holds up the entire mattress and ensures it lasts for at least a decade.

The soft cover is a blend of three materials –viscose, polyester, and lycra. This combination makes it soft, stretchy and tear-resistant.

On the bottom side, the cover is 100% polyester with special stitching and coating to make it non-slip. For fire protection, a knit fire barrier is fitted around the mattress. It does not contain any chemical fire retardants.

Comfort and Firmness

Loom & Leaf

Loom and Leaf firmness

There are two comfort options for the Loom & Leaf. There is the Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm and the Loom & Leaf Firm. The Relaxed Firm has medium-firm comfort and is the ideal option for most people. If you want a firmer mattress with less sinkage and more support, buy the Loom & Leaf Firm.

But don’t worry if you buy the wrong option. If it still feels uncomfortable after 30 nights of sleeping on it, you can return it for free and get a full refund or another mattress.

Purple

Nectar vs Purple Mattress

Purple has only one comfort option. It’s medium firm though slightly on the firmer end. I’d rate it at around 7/10 with ten being very firm. However, depending on your weight and sleeping position, it might feel softer.

Purple and the Loom & Leaf Firm are the best options for back and stomach sleepers as well as plus size individuals. They offer better spinal alignment and robust support. Side and combination sleepers will find the Loom & Leaf relaxed firm to be more to their liking.

Sleeping Experience

Loom & Leaf

Loom and Leaf mattress

Loom & Leaf feels plush and luxurious. It is not quite at the level of a Tempur-Pedic but it comes close. Even the firm option has a certain plushness while still providing the ‘floating’ feeling that customers are looking for.

The Relaxed Firm feels even plusher. It provides a cozy hug around your body but without making you feel like you are in a swamp.

For a memory foam mattress, it has excellent cooling. I’ve not seen any customers complain about heating. Edge support is good enough, and motion transfer is minimal.

There is a bit of smell when you open the mattress, but it fades away within a day or two.

Overall, Loom & Leaf is one of the most comfortable all-foam mattresses you can buy. It’s pricey compared to other online mattresses, but the level of comfort you get is worth it.

Purple

Ghostbed vs Purple

Purple has good support and feels comfortable but doesn’t quite have the luxurious feel of the Loom & Leaf. It feels more rigid.

The grid design of the top layer does a great job protecting your pressure points. If you have back or joint pain, Purple is one of the best mattresses you can buy for less than $1,000.

The top layer and cover do a great job of keeping the mattress cool. They allow free airflow which ensures heat and moisture is quickly dissipated out of the mattress. The grids in the top layer also do a fine job of preventing motion transfer, so you won’t wake up when your partner turns or wakes up in the middle of the night.

Edge support is excellent, which is a big plus for couples.

One other thing I like about Purple is how bouncy it feels. Loom & Leaf doesn’t feel as responsive. So if you are looking for a fun mattress which won’t bog you down during sex, get Purple.

Warranty and Returns

Loom & Leaf

Saatva Mattress features

Loom & Leaf has a lengthy 120-day trial period. If you decide to make a return during this period, you’ll have to pay a $99 return fee. You can either request a refund or a comfort exchange.

If you decide to keep the mattress, there are two warranty options available.

The standard option runs for 15 years and non-prorated. The only cost you’ll be responsible for in case of a claim is the $99 shipping fee.

The second option is called the Fairness Replacement Option. It is essentially a prorated version of the standard warranty. To get a new mattress, you have to pay a percentage of the original purchase price depending on how long you’ve had the mattress.
